Just listened to this. 1) They’re with Rhino now, right? They dropped WB way back. 2) I didn’t think they had any “contractual obligations” as far as a specific number of releases? I thought their deal with just for the ADOKT release. 3) Did VH purchase their back catalog from WB? I didn’t think about that aspect of these new Remasters. The last time they were put out there, I sort of recall the band not being really happy about it, but it was WB’s call, because they owned the recordings. My memory about all of this is foggy, but if VH now own their back catalog and they have full reign on this remaster, it could be very interesting to hear. Not just a low/high end boost and clipping the level and calling it “Remastered”. I feel like I’m desperate to polish this turd to make myself feel better about buying this. VOODOOQuote |

PT5150 (6290) | @EddieTrunk: Some @VanHalen info. I hear there will be live shows announced too soon. http://t.co/a3f6vrjVQl EDDIE’S fingers aren’t fingers they are muscle-powered pistons that hammer guitar strings to the fretboard with the force of a rivet gun”. PT5150Quote |

PT5150 (6290) | Some things from Jeff…. Even if they could do everything that everyone wants, and release everything that everyone wants, there would be unlimited complaining about everything. What does that say about people? Common guys. Let’s look on the bright side of things. I heard this album is fucking incredible. We are so lucky they are all still a band, and even alive, for that matter. Some day they won’t be. And as James said, neither will we. This is going to be a great year for us. If you read it again, the press release doesn’t say that. I said that. That was in the exclusive bits I through in there. Seems they are keeping it real to me, from what I hear. I do not at all believe that Dave’s people went to Canada to have lunch with that small radio station. That info simply slipped through the cracks. The band’s official announcement is still forthcoming. That will be a big deal—press release, all rock radio stations involved, etc. Sure, lots of websites have mentioned it, and lots of diehards and casual fans have heard of it, but millions more will hear about it at that time. That’s why VH’s website hasn’t changed yet. When will that be? Sometime between now and the release date of 3/31. Probably this month. Maybe even next week. Speaking of next week — EVH will speak at the Smithsonian. That will be a big deal. Jeff, will this announcement clear up the confusion over Dave’s status in the band? VOODOO (2375) | As much as I respect Jeff and I love what he does for the VH community, he does have to lean toward the favorable side of VH in these matters. The bottom line is that the FANS have wanted archival, classic VH film, video and demos for decades and they consistently release “Best Ofs” and “Remasters” over and over and over, since 1996. VH III wasn’t accepted, so they went back to “Best Of”s, rereleases, remasters and boxed sets (Japanese). Not ONE official promo video outside of Hagar era and the 1984 videos. Not one live show from the CVH days. No demos, outtakes, leftovers….nothing. I think ADKOT was overwhelmingly accepted and appreciated. They delivered on that one ten fold. We all wanted new material and even though they recycled old demos, we all loved those demos, so it was great to hear them reworked and released officially. There were only a few naysayers, but we don’t care about Hagar anymore. So, with all due respect, it’s not “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.” If Ed released a boxed set of video highlights or promo videos from the early days, maybe a disc or two of outtakes/demos and maybe a cool booklet with pics and stories from the early days, he wouldn’t be damned at all. All of us diehards would be elated and excited to get what we have been begging for for ages. For God’s sake, if we’re willing to spend $50-$60 for a third generation audience recording of a late 70s show on CD-R, imagine what we’d pay for a DVD or CD of pro recorded, mastered audio or videos from the original recordings? Your fan base spends thousands on memorabilia and bootlegs. If that isn’t the most blatant example of what your fans want I do’t know what is. That’s money you could be making. We are tired of buying the first six albums over and over and over again. It’s obvious we love that catalog. It’s just not what we want. With that said, I understand if Ed doesn’t want to release the old footage for whatever reason. That’s fine. I just feel like he/they are using the old catalog to take advantage of the audience by selling them the same product repackaged over and over and over again. I hope these new remasters have SOMETHING new included, but I highly doubt they will, since it wasn’t mentioned in the press release. I just wish we would stop hearing from those in the VH marketing/sales/PR circles that we should just be happy with whatever we’re given and be thankful that they give us anything at all. Sooner or later the interest will dry up. VOODOOQuote |

Rhino is the catalog arm of WB… so they would be on Rhino as default for old releases. But sounds like they may have done a new deal with WB for the Live album, maybe. Love how the radio guy is kinda stumped like many of the VH fans….”Ohhhhh, I thought it was a live release of the old stuff with MA…” too funny. thismusicsuxQuote |

VOODOO (2375) | Submitted for your approval… I may have stumbled onto something. If you go to davidleeroth.com it’s just black. I have been trying to add different directory extensions to see if something pops up like davidleeroth.com/new/, davidleeroth.com/audio/, davidleeroth.com/video/, etc… Each time I add a directory, it takes me to a page with two simple graphics. One that says, “davidleeroth.com” and the other says “TheRothShow.com” and there is an error message basically saying that the extension/directory does not exist. However, when I tried davidleeroth.com/tour/, it redirects to van-halen.com and I get a 404 error. Maybe it was an old link from 2012 that is no longer valid OR maybe it’s the link to the page in waiting to announce the new tour. Who knows?! Back to stalking the web…;) VOODOOQuote |

VOODOO (2375) | OK, yeah. I think it’s an old link. I just noticed the videos page on the official VH site is nothing but one interview video and a basic text list of all the videos that were there in 2012. VOODOOQuote |

Very well put.. I feel the same way. No one would be complaining if this was a ‘definitive collection’ with Oakland 81, US Fest, etc… including the Tokyo show. Shit, they could even stagger the releases of the shows and people would would fork over tons of cash every time. The only people bitching and moaning would be the hagar sheep, and really – fuck them and the fat clown they rode in on. Resident dickhead. I will hurt your delicate feelings. VAiNQuote |

I poked through davidleeroth.com a couple of days ago. All the old stuff still seems to have stuck around, but just hidden. Here’s a tour image: ronQuote |

Mink (2663) | I was just thinking about this the other day. It’s funny how people bitch about Hagar always getting asked about Van Halen in interviews, even when he doesn’t bring it up. But Sammy’s name always seems to come up when there is any Van Halen news, even if he’s not involved. To me, it seems Dave has been living in Sammy’s shadow of late as much as Sammy used to live in Dave’s shadow. Those two will probably always be compared to each other no matter what they do. Kind of a shame really. The two guys are totally different and not really comparable other than they fronted the same band. Music is so personal, it’s all good if you like it. There’s really no right or wrong in my book. In similar terms, I like James Bond. Connery or Moore, it doesn’t matter. Depends what mood I’m in. I like the different eras for different reasons. I guess I’m like that with VH as well. Sometimes I feel classic, sometimes I feel like Van Hagar. Less times I feel like III, but every now and then I break it out. It’s all good! MinkQuote |

It’s the debate that will never end. But not so sure anyone’s in Sam’s shadow? And who’s better Connery or Moore? Haha.. thismusicsuxQuote |
