Good old 3509 !!! What a set of tapes…

Brian Kehew
The first album masters. No “outtakes” kept at all. Although there are other unused vocals and sometimes a guitar part or so. Mostly a cut-live record with the guys in the room together. And it’s amazing what they made.

Larry Melero
What are you doing with them ?
Brian Kehew
As with hundreds of other WB artists, we went through the tapes (all DLR era stuff that is in the vault) to see if there were alternate versions or outtakes. There are not tons of “extra things” with this band; they recorded quickly and efficiently – but there are still great things to hear, alternate takes or different lyrics on the scratch vocals. We’ve done nearly every Fleetwood Mac album this way (post 75) with bonus discs, Elvis Costello, etc etc. It’s common, shows the quality of the band, and makes the music fresh again in a new way.

Larry Melero
So you went through the six DLR albums ?
Brian Kehew
Yep. But they did nothing, as they keep changing singers and making new things; a box set has not interested them.

Mikey Heppner
Are these the ones I might have heard snippets of some years back? Box set finally happening?
Brian Kehew
It’s probably no more likely than it was 12 years ago.

Greg Renoff
And yet a certain Mr. VH says there’s nothing left in the vault….
Brian Kehew
That’s Alex; true (to them) that they didn’t record lots of “extra songs” but there are certainly some versions and outtakes that are exceptional, enough to release.

Allen Garber (Re: Eruption)
As far as I know there were three takes and one of the three was chosen. What the tapes revealed to Brian when he was in for the remaster is the question…
Brian Kehew
Allen Garber There’s just one take of each song, all “outtakes” thrown away at some point. Eruption has a feedback squeal in the middle, which is why it is heard in 2 parts, they ducked that out. No remaster, this was just to mix outtakes of unheard music.

Matt Winegar
Is the reverb printed on anything on the multitrack? Always been curious.
Brian Kehew
None. Was the chamber at the studio. HOWEVER, people always say the guitar was panned Left and the Reverb panned opposite: no, it’s stereo reverb. End of RWTD you can hear it clearly in stereo, both sides.

Chuck Zwicky
See this kids? 3 songs down in one day…
Brian Kehew
I think MANY more than that; this was just compiled to one reel.

Brian Kehew
I bet it said “Show Your Love” – which is what I always call it still.

Brian Kehew
Last one…

He said they went through all of the first 6 albums but only a few alternate versions. But that old WB spreadsheet for 1984 listed a few other unknown song titles and supposedly they recorded ” Big Trouble ” during Diver Down.

Oh well hope they don’t lose those tapes.

They definitely recorded “Big Trouble” and “House of Pain” during the Diver Down sessions. Eddie admitted to it in the Jas Obrecht Guitar Player audio.
