guitard (7354) | http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=505145 This one is now available for download – if you prefer dropbox, just PM me. As I posted in the audio thread for this show, I think the two angles really compliment each other and allow for a nice, easy, natural mix and flow. The near angle is shot from the seats looking down from on high from the near left side of the stage. Since the 2004 stage setup was such that the band members were often facing to the sides or at least turned part way to the side, that angle turned out really great. The other angle is shot straight from the back. Both are digital cameras (remember – in 2004, a lot of guys were still shooting with analog tape cams), so the picture quality is really nice. There will be two audio streams to choose from in the DVD – an audie/ALD matrix and the ALD by itself. Both are very enjoyable and yet the contrast between the two is such that when you change from one to the other – it’s almost like watching a different show. I can picture a lot of people switching back and forth a lot once they realize how distinctly different the viewing experience is between the two audio options. While listening to the matrix, you get the feel of being there with the rest of the crowd. However, when listening to the ALD, your ears really perk up and you start zeroing in on all the crisp and yet subtle sounds that you don’t normally hear due to the crowd noise. Now I know that a lot of people have listened to the ALD audio and just about everyone bags on Ed because he was drunk and acting a little weird. The assumption is that this ruined the show. After watching the video, I would have to disagree. Yes, Ed was drunk and singing way the fuck off-key and his playing was sloppy at times. But he was a ‘happy’ drunk that night. The band actually was having a really good time and it was a fun show. But you don’t really get that vibe from only listening to the audio – you have to watch the video to pick up on it. Van Halen video near left side: (CBG) Sony DCR-TRV730 digital 8mm camcorder both videos: NTSC, 16:9 PAR, 29.97 fps; transferred to harddrive via a firewire using a Sony TRV-330 8mm digital camera; video capture, editing, and 2-pass VBR encoding done with Sony Vegas Pro 12 at 8.2K max, 5.8K avg (both discs), 1K min; authored to DVD in Sony DVD Architect Pro 6. audio choice 1: (B. Emery) recorded w/ unk rig mixed with ALD; LPCM 1536 bit. All video mixing/editing, audio synching and DVD authoring by Silver Stallion. Disk 1 (68 mins) Disk 2 (67 mins) guitardQuote |

VAiN (2777) | Thanks! I’m going to download this just for the EVH audio… He sure was a mess, but even in his haze there are still some gems to be found. Resident dickhead. I will hurt your delicate feelings. VAiNQuote |

I know this will sound like a classic Eddie apologist line … but I think the silver lining of Ed playing when he’s all fucked up is that he becomes unpredictable and goes off on some strange tangents. Some (most?) of them fall flat. But some of them are great. guitardQuote |

I think when Ed was younger, and he was controlling his substance abuse, he played amazing. I think when the substance abuse controlled Ed, his playing was pretty awful. Thanks for all the time and effort put into creating this!! The poor folks play for keeps down here…They’re the living dead. Nobody rules these streets at night like Van Halen!! jroundyQuote |

Mink (2663) | For what it’s worth I still like this tour. It is hard to watch Eddie at times, but it was an interesting tour. I like the stage set up and song list. The giant mine with a screen in it looks cool. Thanks for all the hard work put into this! MinkQuote |

I agree with you.. some of the 04 shows, and 07 as well, were nightmares.. but every now & then Ed would actually be having a good time and you can hear the difference in the playing.. sure the laser-sharp focus isn’t there by a loooooong shot, but there are some moments that are pretty damn good too. Now if only there was a way to turn off the vocal channel Resident dickhead. I will hurt your delicate feelings. VAiNQuote |

mcs5150 (1096) | Thank you!!! I enjoy the 2004 shows now knowing the seemingly good state Eddie is in. If Eddie was still fucked up, these shows would not be enjoyable at all. mcs5150Quote |
