I would just like to say how much I appreciate you guys putting this together. I remember many years ago when this came out thinking how great it was having a balance era show on vhs and DVD and always wishing atbl had been included in the ppv version. I am sooooooooo stoaked it finally happened.
Thanks so much guys for upgrading this boot. Thank you so much gentlemen for all your time and effort.

ron: Question: -Should I move “Why Can’t This Be Love” from it’s original place in the PPV setlist?

Anyone have any opinion on where WCTBL should be placed?

I think it should be placed where it was played live in the set list. Would make the show more natural.

Noticed that the Vault tracks are mono. Hadn’t noticed that when I first checked them out.

Can the audio come from a cd boot from the same night if there is one??
Thanks for the updates Ron..

I think you should leave WCTBL where it is. The less editing is needed/done to it, the better.

For now I’m going to leave it where it is. I’ll re-visit it later in the project.

So far I’ve got the “Sammy Talks” clip patched in, as well as the ATBL clip (with audience audio and alternate video to fill the front end gap).

Starting to look at the Guitar solo clip, and I note some difference at the beginning. The WV clip has the audience cheering and chanting “Eddie Eddie Eddie” before he starts the solo, and the PPV just has generic audience shots and the somewhat annoying audience noise loop. The WV clip has about 20 seconds more footage at the start of the solo than the PPV does. Sammy said, “Toronto, Mister Eddie Van Halen”, and in the PPV he jumps right into the solo, but in the WV clip the screen is mostly black, and you get to hear the cheering/chanting. I’ll patch that in as well. Kinda starting to look like I might find several things like that.

I agree to leave it where it belongs too. I thought it might be better after Amsterdam but I guess original is better.

I ended up moving Why Can’t This Be Love from after the guitar solo up to song #3. A couple of reasons. It would have ended up going between You Really Got Me and Jump. Did it make sense there? And after I looked at the footage, you could tell that it either was from the previous night, or earlier in the set because of the clothing Sammy was wearing. Leaving it in the back half would have meant Sammy comes out after Ed’s solo in a black(ish) shirt, then has a different shirt on for WCTBL, and then back to the black shirt for the next song. Putting it near the top of the set maintains some sort of clothing continuity.

I’ve also started a text file with notes on all the things I’ve done with this video so far. I gotta say, it’s a learning experience for sure. …and what I’ve learned is that I don’t have the patience to be a film/video editor.
:)
