Notes:
Due to some financial difficulty, I honestly wasn’t sure if I was going to make this show until evening of the show itself. But in the end, I love Van Halen too much to skip a VH show in my own backyard. So I swallowed hard and bought a ticket at 4 PM that day off StubHub for slightly under face value. I’m glad I went. It was a great performance with a killer setlist. They seem closer knit as a band than they did on the 2007-08 tour.

As for the recording itself, I had the usual allotment of low-class assholes to contend with and I did the best I could under the circumstances. You can hear said assholes on the recording at times. Given where I was standing I’m a tad disappointed with how this came out–I was expecting more separation of instruments–but it’s still a decent recording nonetheless.

There will not be a 16 bit version. I don’t have the interest in doing that so any one of you can take it upon yourselves to do that and upload it to Dime, no need to ask me. Really you can do whatever you want with it without asking–mate it to a DVD, upload as mp3 files on guitars101.com, etc. I can’t stop you anyway and I stopped caring about such things a long time ago.

Finally, a shout-out to the former DDLR crew who will be at the Buffalo show on Friday March 9th. I wish I could make it but I definitely can’t. I’ll never forget what a great time I had 4-1/2 years ago and I wish you all the best.

I was thinking the same thing when I took a look at that.. I listened to it and accoring to my rating scale this one is more like an A or possibly better…….heard a drunk shout here and there but overall it is very solid!

Lou’s recording is (at least) as good as the Mohegan Sun show…better separation…in spite of what he thinks! A solid A in my book!

Anyone up for an old fashioned trade? I know its not in vogue anymore but I figured maybe I’d throw some nostalgia back into the proceedings! Thank you!

+1

Maybe a dvd with both 24 bit & 16 bit versions.

When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor?

Have any of you PC guys out there dithered this show to 16 bit? I cannot, with XLD or any other mac software, create a 16 bit version that I can burn without gaps. Please LMK.

Did you try dbPowerAmp? It allows you to change the rate so you could go from FLAC to WAV changing the bit to 16 and the Sample to 44.1.

Unless I’m missing something, DBpoweramp is a PC only program, right?

Excellent question, I’m not certain.

I’m 99% sure it is. And that’s the problem. XLD will not allow for dithering to 44.1 except in apple lossless, which is useless for burning gap free discs.

Maybe use something like xACT (freeware) to convert the FLACs to AIF; then use another program like Toast to burn to CD. Toast will automatically dither to CD spec when it burns, and can burn gapless if you tell it to when you add the tracks to build the CD.
