With the 30th anniversary of both 5150 AND Eat Em and Smile on the horizon, here is my far fetched, pie in the sky, idea for the ULTIMATE Van Halen tour…
I think many of us would agree that the modern day incarnation of Van Halen has lost some of its appeal as a touring act over the last few years…
To shake things up, in honor of the upcoming 30th anniversaries of 5150 and Eat Em and Smile, I’d like to see a co-headlining tour featuring the original Eat Em and Smile band and the 5150 lineup of Van Halen.

In my vision, each band would perform for 75 minutes and would only perform material that was created by that particular lineup (we don’t need to hear Steve Vai play ATBL or listen to Sammy sing it again).

At the end of the night, there would be a 1 hour jam session featuring both bands, capped off by a highly anticipated performance by the original 4 members of Van Halen!

On top of this, I’d select Steel Panther to be the special guests on the tour. This band seems like it is stuck in 1986 (in a good way) and it wouldn’t hurt to have Michael Starr A.K.A “David Lee” Ralph Saenz on backup vocals while Diamond Dave is performing.
I know we have a better chance of hitting the Powerball than this type of tour actually happening, but it is fun to dream!
Thoughts?!?

Naw do their respected LP for that year. Kinda of what Styx, Rush and a few other have done. Van Halen do the 5150 ………..Dave do Eat Em and Smile. I like the jam idea but Dave hates jams…………………I would like to just see Eddie and Steve Vai on the stage together. Screw it, lets have a G3 tour Satch, Vai and Van Halen…………..

Ehhh… I think no matter what you’d have 50% of the audience not in to it. I’d see Dave and leave if he opened, or show up late and not catch the hagar portion. The EEAS band needs to just book gigs at the Hard Rock and soon.

Resident dickhead. I will hurt your delicate feelings.

I’d go, but I’d rather see Dave with Van Halen singing Van Halen and Sammy opening singing solo Sammy stuff.
A jam at the end with everyone would be great!

Regarding the possibility of Roth and the “Eat ‘Em And Smile” band playing some concerts next year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the album’s release, Sheehan said: “We hope to do it. We don’t know if it will be just for one show. Maybe do… who knows? Rock In Rio, or do ten shows somewhere. And hoping to do it is not the same as planning to do it. We really hope it happens. And Dave was into it. And he was great [at Lucky Strike Live]. We had a great time [hanging out together]. It was just like the old days

EDDIE’S fingers aren’t fingers they are muscle-powered pistons that hammer guitar strings to the fretboard with the force of a rivet gun”.

2 thoughts:
- The odds would be better of hitting the Powerball
- The tour would last less than 5 cities before the ‘explosion’

Steel Panther…

The poor folks play for keeps down here…They’re the living dead. Nobody rules these streets at night like Van Halen!!

[Steve Vai]
Plenty of fans were disappointed that the show was shut down, but there was hope that 2016 might bring a second shot. “We tasted a little bit of the forbidden fruit there,” Vai says. “We all decided that it would be nice, why not? It was a great era. It was a great record, we were a great band. So it’s on the radar. It’s just a matter of getting everybody’s schedules to align. That’s the tough part.”
