I finally found the place where my VH master cassette will do somebody some good. I did find a thread where there was mention as to who and where it came from, I do not claim they said it was a “master”. I traded somebody for something over 20 years ago, and that’s how it got into circulation. what was circulated is a 1st generation.
My name is Steve, I have lived in Naples Florida for 42 years, I recorded the Van Halen show from Fort Myers Florida in 1980. The venue was called The Lee Civic Center at that time. A real tinny building. I used a portable handheld monophonic magnavox cassette recorder with a condenser mic built in. hence the reason the sound is even marginal. I still have my master, or at least one half of it. I lost tape 2, which where I believe I did the change where Eddies solo started. The tape flip is at the end of Women In Love. I am not going to hold this charm up for hostage. I haven’t been a follower, I only know they reformed without Alex. Things not the same at all since the pre 1984 recordings. I did download and listen to DKOT, a couple of good ones but again you can’t even compare to their 70′s and early 80′s heydays.

Are there any soundboard shows from 80 ?
I have all the proshot dvd shows from 82 and 83 I need. I have never seen any 1980′s, period.

I would be willing to give my tape to somebody who will put it to cdr with track breaks, somebody here who has the 1st generation hopefully. Obviously plus the other half I am missing.

I made a similar proposition with several of my master cassettes of other bands I taped, through the traders den and nobody copied any of my material after receiving it.

So whoever proposes to do this I want a $20 deposit sent to my paypal upfront, to be refunded when I have my cdr’s

my email is bidelman AT gee MAIL DOT COM

I have a scan of the tape and insert I typed for it scanned to send to anybody who wants a look.

Steve

Why in the world would you need a deposit? :?:

When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor?

Reformed without Alex?

Kind of an odd 1st post….but, welcome to the site.

Might be a silly question, but I am unaware of your current situation……Are you unable to transfer these recordings to PC (or Mac) yourself?

There is soundboard audio from 5/1/1980 Largo, MD which is pretty much amazing quality compared to most from WACF tour. Plus 1980 London show is pretty good quality.

One, the people I sent a bunch of my masters to, through the traders den, two or three years ago, promised to dub my stuff over to cdr for me, I didn’t have the TIME or EQUIP at that time to do it. The one I miss the most is my Weird Al from a bar here in Naples..
But I didn’t give up my Nugent from Fort Myers 1986 and I have mastered it on cdr but never circulated it. I digress however..

They all ripped me off. Nobody did it, and I trusted them.

That is the reasoning behind the deposit request.

I send it to anybody here and I never see the cd’s…you get the point….

I stated that I don’t have the Part 2 anymore, so I had hoped I would send my part one to somebody who has the 1st Gen Part 2 for them to do the cdr dub (yes WES, I CAN DO IT MYSELF, BUT I DONT HAVE the Pt 2 anymore) Plus my forte has not been audio editing, most of my time that I have that is spare, I devote to remastering video stuff.

Secondly, I meant Michael and not Alex on the reformation.

Thanks for the info on the 80 show material, there hasn’t been anything I can’t find once I know about it.

Steve

Yeah, I must say that as enticing as it sounds to pay 20 bucks for the privilege to transfer the first half of a slight upgrade to a less than stellar recording for someone who admittedly can do it themselves, I must pass.
There isn’t anyone in this community who would rip you off. It sucks that you got burned in the past, but that is the chance you take asking in a large place like the traders den. Here we are more of tight knit group of VH followers and not a just bunch of random people…
Maybe if you would do a raw transfer of the master cassette to CDR, or at least import it & have a digital version of the master recording to send to someone to author to a final version instead of sending the actual physical master tape, you wouldn’t end up losing it. Just a thought.
