You look forward to that next record coming out from your favorite bands. It’s been a while since I’ve had the feeling of a new Van Halen record in my hand. But it’s funny to me, because when I was in (David Lee Roth’s) band he showed me four or five songs from the new record. ‘She’s The Woman,’ ‘Tattoo’ and all those songs I heard 10 years ago. It was a trip when I heard ‘Tattoo’ on the radio, because I remember hearing it at Dave’s house. I had a grin on my face when I heard these songs now. PT5150 (6290) | In 2000 Dave secretly returned to Van Halen and recorded three new songs (these songs have not been released). Dave announced this on his website in April 2001 and said he hadn’t been in touch with the band since July 2000. It’s A Name People Will Know” July 23, 2000 – Last Friday (July 21) saw the launch of Yamaha’s new publication, Yamaha All Access. The magazine is aimed at highlighting the success of artists who use and endorse Yamaha musical products. The first issue of Yamaha All Access features an interview with Van Halen bassist, Michael Anthony. I haven’t been able to confirm when the interview with Mike took place. Mike endorses his own Yamaha signature bass series. The electric bass will feature Mike’s trademark Chili Pepper fretmarker inlays on the neck. It is expected to be released this fall. The following notable quotes from the interview relating to the current Van Halen situation have been reprinted below for your information. Yamaha: “Who is your new singer?” Michael Anthony: “I can’t tell you, we’re saving the announcement for the right time.” Yamaha: “Aw, cmon!”" Michael Anthony: “All I can say is, it’s going to be huge. It’s a name people will know.” The article also states that Van Halen will launch a world tour in 2001. Read the full interview at yamaha.com 2001. Dave was asked “the gratuitous Van Halen question”. His response: Oh I think it’s gonna be inevitable that there will be a reunion at some time, you know, as free hearted and wandering and libertine as I might be I think the Van Halen’s will have to succumb to some very, very strong overly super powers, namely the wives and kids. [laughter all round] Sooner or later one of those kids is gonna turn and go “what did you do in the war, Daddy?” I’ll look at him and go “your daddy used to be a very famous man”. For a reunion recap, the current state of play is this: Eddie Van Halen says: “I have no idea – I swear I really don’t know. I don’t know what goes on in other people’s realities, and I don’t try to figure it out. He knows where I live. It’s outta my hands.” David Lee Roth says: “I think it’s gonna be inevitable that there will be a reunion at some time.” Michael Anthony said in Feb 2001: “We’re getting ready to make some official announcements…” EDDIE’S fingers aren’t fingers they are muscle-powered pistons that hammer guitar strings to the fretboard with the force of a rivet gun”. PT5150 (6290) | Back in ’04 a few of us had a chat backstage with Luzier and asked if he knew about the VH reunion with Dave. He didn’t mention Tattoo or STW but said that one of the songs he’d heard Dave work on became Up For Breakfast. Apparently Dave’s lyric for this was more in the vein of ‘You’re Breathin’ It’ EDDIE’S fingers aren’t fingers they are muscle-powered pistons that hammer guitar strings to the fretboard with the force of a rivet gun”.
