although i don’t trade that much it seems to be harder and harder to find site’s where peaople haveing their trading lists. Is snail mail trading a thing of the past? Is it all downloading? Has the trading scene gone back under ground? Are their more filming but less trading what they film or they only trade in small circles? Just some silly thoughts in my head today as I’ve been going through my small collection.

I think many traders ended up putting their trade lists onto mega sites like tapetrader.com, and when those sites went away, so did their lists, and any desire to start all over again. Over 9,500 trade lists were lost with just tapetrader.com alone.

Hi Trevor, for me it always been snail mail trade as people call it,for sure i felt into torrent and did less trading but it’s nothing compared to a good snail mail trade.I mean it’s like Christmas everytime i found some dvds in the mail, the joy to unpack and watch every single one is always there, that’s it

People want a show right now, like Ron said when tapetrader.com went down it did hurt the SM trades i had to start over, a trader here said once i am not looking for penpals and tha is fine but the friends i have made i here i don’t tink i would have with just torrents, some people feel it is to much work to do SM ,to me torrents are a must but i have found shows you would see on torrents.

I too have made many freinds doing snail trades. In fact a person I have dealt with over 10 years over the internet is coming to town tomorrow and we are going out for dinner.
Like I said before I have never downloaded anything I’ve always bought or traded. I think there are more people filming especially now that its easier with half of the crowd holding up devices like phones. But I have noticed more versions of the same shows coming from certain cities when some cities have pretty much dried up. I had a lot of filmers say they quit because they couldn’t sell em anymore to help pay some of their expenses but what made it even worse with all the torrent sites they can’t even trade their work out like they used to,to make filming worth while for them so they could at least expand their collections. I also know some of the filmers are still filming but are very carefull who they release them to. They don’t want them traded out for a certain length of time or not at all.
Another thing that they didn’t like was people getting copies of their shows then adding menus and photos and saying they were the masters. I have noticed the guys on this site who re authorize do it the classy way and always credit the original source and refer to it as re sourced or another term not master. I have also noticed some go as far as asking for permission to do it. Thats why I said when I rejoined this site things here seem to be done the right way by the members.
Unchainedheart described getting shows in the mail exactly how I explain it to freinds. I call them toys not shows. And when my Santa Claus, the mailman, brings them its like Christmas. I had one guy say “you have to grow up someday.” I replied as I always do when the wife says it. ‘NEVER, I hate adults and don’t ever want to be one !!”

I like torrents,I see things I would of never thought of getting and I like uploading and sharing on some sites,Dime makes it too much of a pain in the ass with all there strict rules.

I like snail mail I like interacting with people online and making a new trading partner. Then when a packet of like 10 dvds arrive it can be awesome and is lots of fun.

I’m also getting into private torrents/mediafile which are cool for overseas to save on postage or for smaller trades in the USA.

I also had my list on tapetrader,It took me awhile but I quit being lazy and just made a new one.It does not take that long.Just get your dvds out and make a list you can do it over a week or a few days if you have 100s.

This topic seems to come up every couple of months. My take: torrents are great, but so few things get uploaded (apart from recent stuff). For older shows on DVDs, snail mail trading is much, much better.

I cant do the downloads so for me snail mail is the way to go.
Met some great people doing it and consider them VH brothers once we have traded.
Like many have said you feel like a excited kid checking the Mailbox every night to see if the package has arrived.
Then I usually sit back with a few cold ones on the weekend and enjoy the effort and time many have put into making these A class dvds.
Thanks to everyone in the trading World.. :-P

I beg to differ. I just checked Dime, and currently there are 51,203 torrents available. If a torrent goes two weeks without any activity, it gets deleted. But 51,203 is a shitload of shows. i realize the majority of them are not something you’d be interested in. But that’s the same with stuff you see on other people’s trade lists.

I don’t think you’ll find many items on trade lists that aren’t available on one of the torrent trackers, hubs, ftp sites, or blogs.

Here’s a completely random sampling of the first 25 items that come up in the “hard rock” category on Dime:

DEEP PURPLE RIVERMEAD READING ENGLAND 2-16-96 ANALOG MASTER TO DAT CLONE

I was basing it on my experience for VH DVDs (for whatever reason a lot of VH audio is uploaded, but not that many DVDs are (current tour an exception)). I started using torrents in Sept. 2007 (DIME, JTT, traders den etc) and got what I thought was a nice collection of VH DVDs. I started snail mail trading in March this year through this site. My collection has at least doubled. There were so many DVDs from the 2007 that were never uploaded to torrent sites. However, it seems that almost all the 2012 tour DVDs have been uploaded to torrent sites.

You hit the nail on the head though, there are a lot of shows out there, but for me in that list of 25 you posted I wouldn’t bother with a single one of them. Different story when I first got into trading in 2007. Back then I couldn’t get enough and would have probably downloaded half of those shows.

I like torrents because of their ease of doing, but every now and then you still find some gems on peoples lists that aren’t on any torrent sites.
