I thought Dave said in an interview that the only new song was Stay Frosty. Everything else was from earlier work.

VAiN: I assume Honeybabysweetiedoll is a ‘new’ creation… to me that sounds like something they jammed out with Wolf. Everything else is probably from the 2000 sessions or shortly thereafter..

Some think that’s a reworking of “Act Like It Hurts,” the instrumental from the Women & Children First demos. I kinda sorta hear it, but still think it’s somewhat of a stretch.

From Jeff at VHND over at links..

1) There is a rumor that VH will release a live album this year, followed by a full album early next year. But it doesn’t matter, because it’s not true.

2) The band has NOTHING to prove. (But of course it would be great if they wanted to blow us away some day—with something).

3) The band has never released a CD of only freshly-written material, and I sure don’t think they are about to start doing that now. (If they release any new music in the future, I would make an educated guess that some of the material would be a mixture of newly written stuff, some of the material would be incredibly good old stuff that they would be crazy not to release).

Good discussion on this topic at links.
I agree with this statement..

1. Sure they can still write. Not all the ADKOT songs were rehashed demos.

2. Roth absolutely cannot sing live. Only way a live album is going to sound any good at all is if he re-sings the whole thing in the studio. Good luck synching all that up.

That’s the one thing that makes me sad about the reunion with Roth….his inability to sing now. He is a glaring weak link in an otherwise world-class band.
In the studio, he’s fine.

Too bad we can’t have live shows with Sam, and new records with Dave.

Are you kidding? 8-O

When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor?

Not from me that comment.
But I do agree that Roth can sing in the studio but live he struggles with a lot of songs..

I agree with that, but I would rather hear Dave struggle with a song just for the sake of hearing the song.

Sam’s voice has gotten to the point where he is now struggling to sing live.

Isn’t that exactly what Sam did (according to his autobiography) almost 20 years ago for Live: Right Here ,Right Now?

it will be a crime against all things good in rock & roll if that’s the only legit live album featuring the Van Halen band that will ever see the light of day. it’s a terrible, awful album. Just crap. Did we really need to capture sam’s chatter in the middle of Panama??? Slap in the face to the fans. That video that came out with it is even worse.

Would be great if Dave would try different songs. I am very happy that they added a lot of rare gems but,
Going from the soundcheck dvds when they did AS IS & LITS & Ed says “If Dave decides to sing this tonight”
The Tokyo show was awesome the band was on fire and Dave sounded great.
Anyway we will see what happens. In the studio Roth sounds great.

Amen! I don’t think I’ve even listened to Live Right Here Right Now a second time since it came out in 1993.

Yes RHRN and LWAN were both heavily re-recorded I think (music and vocals)
Along w the three 1983 US Fest songs. And prob Oakland 81 vids

I think Ed and Al have an issue w live releases sounding perfect. And why we will likely never see a proper CVH DVD released.

To me LWAN seems pretty live. I’m sure they touched it up, but it’s nothing like RHRN as far as polished. I really can’t see VH ever releasing a proper live video with Dave at the helm. His voice is too far gone now, and can’t imagine them wanting to make that any more prevalent than it already is. Luckily there is the US Fest and Largo videos. Both of them are pretty good for the time period. I’d really like to see a pro-shot 1984 video surface. I know there is one out there, it’s being held hostage. I still like watching the Silver Stallion: Another Day at the Office blu ray. It’s me favorite! :)

Oakland 81 HAS to be released.. anything 78-81 would open eyes of an entire generation that has no clue what rock is.
