DVD 5 is a standard dvd
DVD 9 is a dual layer dvd (like a normal dvd, just 2x the size)
Blue Ray – you get the idea

If you put the disc(s) in a drive and look at the files, what do you see?

If they are files that end with VOB, they are files for a DVD. If they add up to more than 4.5GB of files, they are on a DVD9 (double the storage of a single-layer DVD).
If the files are in a directory called “BDMV”, then it’s a BluRay disc.
If they are something else, then it’s probably the raw files from the camera. If so, how many GigaBytes (GB) do they add up to?
