“HD quality” my ass, it was shot on video in the 70s. Upscale all you want, it’s still not hi-def. And they could at least replace the original audio track with a CD-quality version.

From the Eddie Van Halen Facebook page:

“Van Halen’s early music videos are officially available for the first time ever! Watch them below.”

Well, my favorite part is at 1:20. Glad we got a clean look at that!

Still nice to see they’re officially acknowledging these videos now. I think the “Napalm…” DVD is the best quality out there, IMO. Let’s see if they put all of the old videos on their official page. :)

You know for a fact that they shot these on video and not film?

I don’t have any documentation, but you can tell just by looking at it. The edges and motion don’t have the softness of film, nor does it have any film graininess. And the color banding/noise when the lights flare into the lens is consistent with what you’d get out of a tube camera from that era.

These YT rips were probably made from VHS copies of the original film. Just a guess, though.

Agreed – and they should have used Cato’s Napalm DVD!

I haven’t seen them yet (can’t view YT on my work computer). I have no idea what the source is for what’s up on YT, but It just makes sense that these were originally filmed on film.

…More vids posted about 8 hrs. ago, boys. The video quality is as good as it gets! The audio on on the lip-synced stuff WASN’t re-dubbed but the sound of the live stuff is also damn good (pun intended).

Guitard, …know for a fact the ’79 stuff was shot on film. …Don’t know about the other stuff.

…Maybe Jeff’s right – Fellas, could this mean we’ll FINALLY have a DVD release of ALL the old classic videos in their entirety in the not so distant future? I can only dream.
