dand363 (194) | It was 40 years ago, July 8, 1977, I saw Kiss on the opening night of the Love Gun tour at the Halifax Forum! I was 14 years old and I was wound up. I’ll never forget the chills running up and down my spine when the lights went down and I could see the silhouettes of the guys standing on top of the amp stacks. It was interesting seeing the Love Gun costumes as I was expecting to see the Destroyer outfits like they wore in Japan in April of that year. It was one of the best concert experiences I’ve ever had. I don’t have a boot of the show, but I have the Montreal show from 4 nights later. I’ll have to pop that in for a listen to commemorate the event. Man, where has the time gone? dand363Quote |

guitard (7354) | Kiss was also my first concert – in 1975. The guy who lived across the street was in college and he was a total geek. Another friend in the neighborhood somehow got that guy to take the two of us to the concert – even though neither of us were even in high school yet. My sister graduated high school with that guy and she sees him at their high school reunions. She says he really blossomed later in life and turned out to be this very tall & handsome, successful corporate executive. He couldn’t get a date in high school to save his ass – and now all the girls see him and say, “Damn … if I’d only known then what I know now …” I got his email address from my sister and I’ve emailed him on the 30th and 40th anniversaries of the concert. The Kiss “Alive!” album was released shortly after I went to that show and every night when I went to bed, I listened to it and relived the concert I went to. Collectively, those experiences set me off on a life-long love of concerts and live recordings that’s just as strong now as it was then. guitardQuote |

frankm (4891) | Kiss was my first concert too … I guess a lot of us were broken in by Kiss. I had a teacher way back in the day that referred to Kiss as a “training bra” group. My dad was the one who took me to see Kiss back in 1980 on their Dynasty tour. Judas Priest opened the show. Seeing a Harley on stage is an eye opening experience for a 12 year old. Then Kiss just blew away the crowd. What a great show. More than 35 years later I don’t remember much of the show (and there have been 1,000 of concerts since – they kinda blend together). It was a great way to start this obsession with live music. frankmQuote |
