guitard (7354) | Funny thing … For probably a good 25 years, I didn’t know that the actual lyrics said, “So if you want it got to bleed for it baby.” I don’t remember what I thought the words were, but I most definitely wasn’t hearing the word “bleed.” I didn’t come to realize the correct words until the 2004 tour when Sammy would let fans sing this part of the song. And as anyone who has seen some of the those 2004 videos knows – some fans did a better job than others. But I heard a guy singing, “So if you want it got to bleed for it baby,” and for the first time I actually heard the words clearly and I thought “WFT …. got to bleed for it baby? Are those the actual lyrics?” I looked them up on the internet … and the internet don’t lie about these sorts of things. And I’ve been a much better informed VH fan every since. guitardQuote |

Chris UK (2998) | I always thought it was “plead for it baby” and that the male in the song was a drug dealer/pimp and the girl an addict and prostitute… but I could be way off?? Chris UKQuote |

guitard (7354) | I just looked up the lyrics to see if it’s written as “plead” anywhere as Chris thought. I did see a reference to plead, but just about every site says bleed. But I just learned about another thing in the lyrics that I have been mis-hearing for the past 37 years! I have always thought the line was, “You know you say I’m good lookin’.” But I was watching this Youtube clip that includes lyrics and guess what? The actual lyric is “You know you’re semi-good lookin’.” And after seeing it written that way and then hearing it (studio version) – it is clear as day. WTF??!! guitardQuote |

guitard (7354) | There is a very occasional reference on the internet that says, “plead for it baby.” However, the vast majority say, “bleed for it baby.” We need to see Dave’s original hand-written lyrics! They’re out there somewhere … guitardQuote |

Gilligan (1518) | There are so many CVH songs that I don’t know the words to, it’s embarrassing. But I figure if Dave doesn’t have to learn them, neither do I! I didn’t know the “bleed for it” line until maybe the ’07 tour. I don’t remember what I thought it was before that, but it definitely wasn’t “bleed for it”. Be forward, I think… I DID know the “semi-good looking’” line though. That’s a tremendous bit of lyricism I quote often. GilliganQuote |

Yeah that was my take as well for many years. Funny how certain lyrics are misheard. I always thought the opening line in Big Bad Bill was….” Way down yonder in Oraville lived a cat named Big Bad Bill…” , but just now realized its Louisville….not Oraville. HalenbergQuote |
