Ok, I’m just gonna say it…I’m a huge George Lynch fan (anyone who knows me and my history with him knows this). However…Am I the only one who is just severely disappointed at everything he’s been involved with in the last 15 years? I’m not trying to start a argument or anything like that, but for me personally…I just can’t get into any of his playing when I honestly listen to what he’s doing these days…
Just had to get that off my chest…my name is Greg, and I’m a Lynch fan…carry on.

I’m with you Greg. Although Dokken was never my thing style wise it was still good stuff, BUT Lynch Mob’s first two albums are feckin awesome, great powerful catchy riffs, excellent crafted songs with great vocal lines and both albums were mixed well with a broad eq band (unlike a lot of Dokken stuff very ‘middy’).
So when he announced he was doing a solo lp, I thought, ‘here we go, more catchy guitar riffs’… no :( sadly for me 90/92 was Mr.Scarry’s pinnacle.

Tbh… I think this course can be said for most rock bands and players anyway… rise to great heights quickly, then slide down the other side slowly

I always thought his guitar sound had too much treble or something… LOVED Dokken back in the 80′s but always wished the guitar sound was more “full.” That said, he definitely has his own sound and I can usually pick a Lynch song out of crowd because of it, but it’s not for me.

First let me say that George is my second favorite guitar player behind Edward!! I agree with almost everyone’s points…..I too find myself always searching for that elusive 80′s and early 90′s sound. He has had many releases that leave me scratching my head (see: Syzygy, Smoke this,Stone House) even Furious George, the covers disc just didn’t get it done in my book. Don’t even get me started on Souls of We. He definitely has done a lot of experimenting when I wish he would just stick with his classic sound!

With all that being said I still marvel at his playing. When he wants to he can rip up that 80′s / 90′s sound. I have seen him at NAMM and watching him play up close is frickin rediculous….He just released a 4 song EP available on Itunes that is very solid in my opinion. It’s called LEGACY and is close to the signature Lynch style.

You are right Lance, he will have a release this fall (at least for now) called TNN With Jeff Pilson on Bass and vocals along with “Wild” Mick Brown that will be re-recorded Dokken tunes as well as a bunch of new songs.

I’m with ya Greg. You know how big of a fan I am as well…and I’ve blindly bought everything he’s released over the past decade. However, the only ones I still reach for on the shelf are the classic Dokken and first two Lynch Mob albums. He just seems to put out anything and everything these days without sinking a whole lot of effort in to it. That being said, the last time I saw him at Amos’ was one of the best club shows I’ve been to in years and I do have high hopes for the TNN album (although, they really should change that band name…another lack of effort…lol) .

Coincidence that the Lynch Mob era is when he started playing Soldano, eh Decatone?

George Lynch – Kill All Control (2011) wasn’t bad either, you guys should check it out
while I can’t wait to hear TNN, I’m really stoked to hear the guest vocalists on it Bach, Ripper Owens and I think Wimbush from King’s X

Totally agree with you Dok when it comes to Kill All Control, some solid tracks there and “Son of Scary” really smokes…….As for the new TNN and the King’s X singer its Dug Pinnick, love his voice so I am really looking forward to that track!

I loved Lynch in Dokken, really liked the first two Lynch Mob albums, and I also like the Lynch Pilson record from 2003.

My only beef with George, is his live tone just sounds so bad compared to the records. Saw him as the guest guitarist on That Metal Show, and his tone was awful.

He is one of my top five favorite guitarists. Of course, Ed is number one.

I love Lynch. Especially the tri-fecta of albums with Dokken: Tooth and Nail, Under Lock and Key, and Back for the Attack. Hopefully the new album is great and everything gets back to where it should be:)
Who’s playing with Don now? I downloaded a Dokken show the other day, but it didn’t list the players. The set-list is real good, but Don sounds awful. I know Mick is touring with Nugent. Is Pilson still with Foreigner?

Don looks awful as well. He should just retire gracefully. No need to go down in flames. Get the Van Halen reference?

My Buddy and bandmate have this discussion all the time. George has not had the magic since 1995. At one time this man was
the most talented rock guitarist ever!!!

I watched him at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus last summer opening for Mr Big. This is the day Oni split and George had a new drummer and singer Chaz West I believe.
I was so let down after watching him play Mr Scary… the band stopped at least twice during the song. He ended up stopping after about 7 songs it was so bad.

Check out the youtube clips from the Alrosa Villa Mr Scary.

I did love the Smoke & Mirriors Lynch Mob cd … great Songssss!!!!!

Nowadays it seems like a paycheck instead of the guitar god from years ago. It is really too bad and depressing to hear the old stuff and then something like Son Of Scary.

I saw him a couple of years ago and enjoyed it – but I was really there to see Michael Schenker.
