NEW YORK — An unpublished notebook containing the musings and poems of Jim Morrison in the last year of his life is included in a coming sale of rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia.
The handwritten marble notebook by The Doors’ lead singer could bring between $200,000 and $300,000 on Dec. 18 in an auction both online and live in Calabasas, Calif., said Profiles In History auction house.
Eddie Van Halen’s 1982 Kramer Frankenstrat is among items up for bid. The handmade, red-and-white guitar was used during Van Halen’s 1982-1983 Diver Down Tour and recording of its most successful album, “1984.”
Van Halen’s signature is inscribed on the guitar’s neck. Its presale estimate is $100,000 to $150,000. Part of the proceeds will benefit guitarist Jason Becker, who has Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
that would be awesome to have for sure. Funny thing is Ed never actually PLAYED that guitar on the diver down tour. He may have taken it with him on the road but he played the Frankenstein for the whole tour with an occasional breakout of the Rasta strat and Multi color tape guitar and during the South American leg of the tour he played the Kramer ad frank. Still I would love to have that axe for sure.

Rob, are you buying this suggestion that this guitar “was used” (meaning Ed recorded tracks with it) during the recording of 1984? That’s not what the auction catalog says. It says it was “Played in the studio” during the 1984 studio sessions; note the description does not say that he used it to RECORD any songs on 1984, but those running the auction wouldn’t seek to disabuse anyone of thinking that’s the case. I seriously doubt he did so.

The auction house didn’t get anywhere near what it wanted for the guitar, but as I have said before, I never saw any proof it was played in the studio. Did anyone ever find a pic of Eddie playing this guitar live on the DD tour?

I think the description of this guitar is misleading and just assumed it was played — just like for 1984..he had a handful of these made in 82 it seems. Most were probably not played and many were just given away ala Hard Rock Cafe, etc..
I don’t think this is a guitar ever played on 82/83 tours and even more doubtful it was used to record anything. But of the many other nights on 82 tour…who knows… maybe he picked from the batch on any given night? but doubtful.
We can agree this is NOT the Kramer Ad Frankie (which is similar and he DID play 82/83 tours).

And still the same guitar. I think this was the work horse Kramer. The one being sold may have been made for EVH, but it seems it was probably “played” while he was in the studio, but ended up not being what Ed liked.
In the most recent Guitar World magazine which many people on here have, Eddie was asked: “Was the Frankenstein still your main guitar in the studio on that (1984) album?”. Eddie’s answer: “I had actually retired the Frankenstein by then. I’m pretty sure I used the Kramer 5150 guitar the most on that album – “Panama”, “Girl Gone Bad”, “House of Pain”, the solos on “Jump” and “I’ll Wait”.
Only problem with all of it Ed has never been truthful of what he used and didnt use . In one article I read a long time ago he said he used a non painted les paul for all of his recordings in the 80s and the Kramer was just a stage used guitar . I believe he just want to keep people guessing like the dummy pick up on frankie did it really work ? or was it there to throw you off ……. only Ed knows
