guitard (7354) | Here’s a DLR show I recently authored. http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=0494047 David Lee Roth video: (CBG) Ricoh R-600 (same specs as Sony CCD-V5) 8mm camcorder (w/ 2X teleconverter lens) master 8mm analog tape; NTSC, 4:3 PAR, 29.97 fps; transferred to harddrive via a firewire using a Sony TRV-330 8mm digital camera w/ Time Base Correction; video capture, editing, and 2-pass VBR encoding done with Sony Vegas Pro 12 at 8.2K max, 8.0K avg, 1K min; authored to DVD in Sony DVD Architect Pro 6. All video editing, audio synching and DVD authoring by Silver Stallion. audio: recorded w/ Aiwa-CM30A mic through the Ricoh R-600′s external mic in jack; captured with the video from the master 8mm analog tape; LPCM 1536 bit running time: 103 mins (full show) disk 1 (54 mins) disk 2 (49 mins) I only have one request, that you don’t take these files and post them on other torrent sites. I have many shows to upload. I will upload, let them get seeded by others and after a majority have downloaded the files completely, remove my files so I can seed something new. I prefer to manage my own shows on DIME and The Traders Den. I will upload to other sites when I wish to for select shows. Thanks for honoring my wishes in advance. This is “CBG Classic Master Video Series Vol.13”. At this point, I had only filmed at one other arena other than Springfield, MA and New Haven, CT and that was Nassau Coliseum for the Springsteen shows the first two days of April. Those were also the first two shows that I did with the Ricoh R-600 8mm camcorder. The search was tough for those Springsteen shows (when you have a huge camera and accessories strapped on your back) but it wasn’t that rough because of the crowd that is coming to a Springsteen show, everyone from grandfathers to very young kids. So this was the first ‘normal’ rock show I was going to…and it was the same arena, Nassau Coliseum, three weeks after the Springsteen shows. I am a big Van Halen fan right from when the 1st record was out. I loved the Roth era of the band becoming very popular and growing into one of the hottest bands in America through the early 80’s. They were in every Circus Magazine, Eddie winning guitarist of the year, the girl frenzy at the shows and the constant roar of the crowd when they played. I was lucky enough to see them in that era, when the records were being released. So many people put down David Lee Roth for talking too much and talk singing, then when he was out they put VH down for not having him. People are so fickle. I heard it from all my friends. I still liked him and VH regardless. He is a funny guy, he is an entertainer, and he made good songs. Both with VH and without. At this time, I was ‘coaching’, if you want to call it that, Ryan in Florida with filming. I mean, I was no expert. I had just started myself in October of 1987. He started in December of 1987. I guess a better way of explaining it was that we were sharing experiences and how to do it better, and discussing strategy at that time. He had a few shows under his belt in early 88 and David Lee Roth was starting his 2nd worldwide tour in Lakeland Florida. The second show was in the smaller Hollywood Sportatorium in Miami. This was the main arena in Miami before the Miami Arena was built for the Miami Heat and way before the AA arena in Bayfront or the BB&T Center in Sunrise. We were both big fans of Van Halen and really loved the last album and tour Roth put on in 86-87. So this was a show we really wanted bad. That is what makes doing this even tougher, when you want something bad, the stress and anxiety rises exponentially with the wanting factor. So we discussed everything about approach, what the show could be like, what to remember about the last tour and filming technique. Ryan was 16 years old, and borrowed his dad’s full size VHS shoulder mount camcorder to film shows. Kudos to him for being so ballsy and mostly successful though all of his attempts at this. He pulled it off and told me all about the show that night. There was no internet to see clips or read about setlists immediately back then. I had a lucky inside source for this one. The next day he mailed a copy of the show to me and two days later I was watching it on my VHS deck in my living room. This was the first time I saw a show before I actually went to ‘see’ the show. It was so cool. He did a great job on that one too. So it is like March 10th and Roth isn’t going to be in our area until March 30th in Providence, RI. Again, at this point, I only thought I could film in two arenas in the northeast because they didn’t pat your back in the search (no search in the case of Springfield). So I got tickets to all of the shows in my area that I could go to. I went to Providence and then Hartford on April 8th but didn’t bring the camcorder thinking I can’t get it into these places. Then I went to Nassau Coliseum for Bruce Springsteen in the beginning of April and got it in twice. That was the first time I ventured out of my comfort zone. The search was thorough but they weren’t patting you on the back for those searches. The next DLR show in the northeast was two weeks after Hartford, CT at Nassau Coliseum on April 21st. So after the two Springsteen shows there, I thought it would be doable and I tried. Well, this time the search was very tough. They are head to toe patting down people at a barricade out front of the entrance doors. They also had metal detector wands. Oh man! They didn’t have those at Springsteen! This doesn’t look like it is happening now, I thought. I walked around observing how the searching was going. This looked like no way I was getting into the show with this camera strapped on my back. I had no other option, it was way too big to go in my crotch! Remember that anxiety curve and the wanting factor…well, because the camera was strapped to my back with two belts around my chest, and they were tightened so the camera would not slip down my chest, my anxiety was rising due to the searching going on and the wanting to get this show factor, the belts seamed to cut off my ability to breath normally. They restricted me and it made the pressure seam even that much more intense. After walking back and forth several times observing the search, I saw one lady that was a little lackadaisical in her approach. Maybe she was tired or didn’t care, but that was my one and only opportunity to get in. She is not patting people on the back like every other security guy is as they frisk all the patrons going through the lines. But she does have a metal detector wand. So I get in line and feel like I am going to pass out due to the belts around my chest with the anxiety of going through the search and the wanting factor for the show. I get there and she checks the pockets of my jacket, my front pockets on my pants and my ankles then she moves the metal detector wand over the front of me over my head to my back and it beeps but she says go on…ugh….I politely say thank you and move along quickly. I felt like a balloon letting out air…I started to breathe again and stop sweating even though it was still cold outside with winter trying to hold on in the northeast. The metal detector goes off and she doesn’t do anything. Gotta love it. God Loves Video!!! Mission accomplished! Partially…now I had to go do the ‘easy part’ of filming the show…ha! David Lee Roth always puts on a higher level show in the big cities in the northeast like NY and Boston. It was rocking and high energy. I finally filmed one of my favorite front men myself. Enjoy the Nassau show now for yourself. More to come. CBG5150 posted to DIME 2014-06-01. guitardQuote |
