Welcome to VHT, my friend! You’re in for a wild ride! There are a lot of other sites and forums out there that may look flashier and may have more people registered, but you’re not going to get beat in the head for sharing your opinions here and we all feel the need to shut down the “Sammy vs. Dave” debates before they escalate unlike the other boards. :) Enjoy the site and the stories! Cheers!

Welcome to VHTrading!!! Since you’re new, you wouldn’t happen to know anyone that has some video footage of Van Halen from around, lets say, 1981, filmed in Northern California, say Oakland??????

Thanks for dropping in, hope your around for a spell.

Thanks for the heads up, and though I prefer the early Roth years, I saw the boys with Sam, and they were fantastic too. There are more important things in life to get worked up about. Loving the site beyond words!

Cheers
Steve

Great site indeed! Loving it.
Is there a widely accepted definitive, high quality Roth era live show out there on DVD? I have a few, but wondered if I might have missed out on ‘the one’? Also, is there any live footage of the UK 91 tour kicking around at all?

Cheers
Steve

You probably have what’s out there…some decent pro-shot stuff from 82/83
- 1982 Largo, MD is probably the best overall
- 1983 US Festival — quality is probably just as good.. but VH partied a little hard that day
- 1983 South American shows (all pro-shot, multi-cam). Think Sao Paulo is probably the best, but Caracas and Argentina are both similar I think.
- 1984 Montreal, audience shot pretty far away. but good full show.

Quite right, my mistake. I was at the Sheffield show and they were great, once Sammy had got his voice into gear. Wouldn’t mind a recording of the London show from that tour if it’s out there. Also saw Sam as a solo artist in what would have been 1980 ish when supported by Riot, at Manchester Apollo. Again brilliant. Only ever saw Dave as a solo artist towards the end of the Your Filthy Little Mouth tour though my biggest ever regret was turning down a ticket for the boys on their first tour here supporting Sabbath, due to a Chemistry O level the next day, which I then failed, just to rub salt into the wounds. I lied for years after, saying I had been there!

Cheers Van Haggis

That’s a great help, many thanks and yes, I have pretty much all of those, though never quite sure if my copy is as good as it gets. Brilliant to have though.

Cheers

that’s true… different releases of the same show are sometimes better. Anything from Fletch/BTB Productions is typically some of the best — as well as Radikal.
