mcs5150 (1096) | I see it is an in-depth biography of the band. The research that must have went into those 8 pages… mcs5150Quote |

frankm (4891) | Clarification … Van Halen is NOT a Heavy Metal band … anyone who calls Van Halen Heavy Metal doesn’t know anything. Van Halen with David Lee Roth is a great Rock N Roll band … Van Halen with Sammy Hagar is a great Rock band but in no way is any form of Van Halen Heavy Metal. Judas Priest is Heavy Metal. Iron Maiden is Heavy Metal. Van Halen ain’t Heavy Metal. frankmQuote |

guitard (7354) | It used to irk the shit out of me back in the ’70s when the rock ‘n’ roll magazines would have an annual poll, and Led Zeppelin was voted #1 in the heavy metal rock band category. guitardQuote |

mikeyV (335) | My favorite thing was to start fights with DJ’s in the 70′s and 80′s, and call Led Zeppelin no more than a electronic folk band. I always figured you had to take in to consideration the time period. Van Halen would have been considered heavy metal or hard rock in the US in 1978 and 1979. But as time goes so does the definitions of music and yes now they fall into rock n roll, classic rock, whatever you want to call it. But in 1978, in the US, there was no Metallica, not quite what Priest was playing. mrmojohalen (6468) | It’s been said Deep Purple is heavy metal, as well as Jethro Tull (and the Grammy goes to………..). When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor? mrmojohalenQuote |

guitard (7354) | To me, heavy metal is an attitude as much as it is a musical genre. If you try to find a definitive definition for it – there doesn’t seem to be one. It’s typically described as “loud, aggressive, powerful music with distorted guitars…” or something like this. Well, that describes a lot of rock music. Having said that, pretty much all bands that fall into the heavy metal genre call themselves heavy metal bands. Judas Priest is a good example of this – Rob Halford makes frequent references to “heavy metal” during Priest shows. guitardQuote |
