Wes (6118) | http://www.vhnd.com/2012/07/03/david-lee-roth-to-address-superbowl-rumors/ David Lee Roth To Address Superbowl Rumors It all started with a quote from Eddie Van Halen; “In November, we’ll hit Japan, and in the new year, we’ll possibly do something special, but I can’t talk about it.” This quote kicked off rampant rumors that “something special” might mean that Van Halen could be the band considered to play the Superbowl halftime show next February. Keep in mind, rumors of Van Halen playing the Superbowl are nothing new – their name pops up annually as a potential performer. It seems to be Van Halen’s protocol never to address rumors. We at the Van Halen News Desk have never commented on the Superbowl rumors either, as they have never been anything other than fan’s wishful thinking. This year was originally no different – we weren’t planning on addressing the rumors without first hearing something either way from our trusted inside sources. But wouldn’t you know, our sources now tell us that David Lee Roth is indeed going to publically address the Superbowl rumors within the next few days. Now, that sounds interesting! (Dare we say it sounds “promising”?) We’ll speculate that if (and that’s a big “if”!) Van Halen actually ends up playing the Superbowl next year, we think they would almost certainly tour right afterwords. The Superbowl is a humongous opportunity for publicity on the biggest television sports event in the US, so it wouldn’t make sense for the band not to tour afterwords. In fact, 114 million people tuned to in to watch Madonna perform at the halftime show this year. The last 3 Superbowls now sit at one, two, and three on the most viewed programs list in TV history. And as David Lee Roth has said, on any given day, you can walk into any hockey arena or football stadium throughout the country and you’ll hear Van Halen’s music blaring to get the crowd pumped up. So Van Halen and the Superbowl would go together like peanut butter and jelly. Could 2013 be another huge year for Van Halen? That would really be something, considering the fact that 2012 is such a stellar year in their carreer, with the release of their critically acclaimed masterpiece, A Different Kind Of Truth, and their hugely successful 48 city US tour which just wrapped up last week. Stay tuned… VHT Facebook Group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/3731315524 WesQuote |

Gilligan (1518) | The fact that he’s actually going to comment on it gives the idea a little more credibility. I would love for it to happen, and think they would kill it, but I’m also sure they’d get universally panned for their performance along the lines of the Who a few years ago. I hope they do it. Funny you mention the Who performance. They got ripped cuz Daltry was brutal. Have any of you actually listened to Dave this tour? Unless they play Eruption for 12 minutes our favs will get ripped just as bad. If I was them I would pass if its offered. videoman320Quote |

You’re right… Dave for a 1-off show in 6-7 months would be exactly like Dave with a head cold towards the end of a 40+ city tour. Have you actually been to a show or are you basing this on a review? Personally, I’m not really in favor of VH playing the SB just because I hate stadium gigs. I also don’t think the mouth-breathing general public doesn’t get VH. Resident dickhead. I will hurt your delicate feelings. VAiNQuote |

Yes I’ve been to a show and have over two dozen shows from the tour on video. I don’t make comments on other peoples reviews I judge for myself. I don’t care how high his kicks are or how he twirls a mic stand its all about the vocals and on this tour he was very poor. No way I want over a hundred million viewers hearing how he now sounds. Unless he has a dramatic improvement from this tour I would not do the gig. Tour was too successful to risk the fallout. videoman320Quote |

eruption1962 (1366) | When Ed said he couldn’t talk about it…perhaps they’re thinking of adding a DLR 80s hologram for the rest of the tour! I am really tired of Dave’s lack of effort! QUIT FUCKING SMOKING and get those cords back in order! eruption1962Quote |
