Benatar actually came in second in this year’s online Fan Vote. Also not making the Class of 2020 cut were the Dave Matthews Band, who actually topped the Fan Vote by a wide margin. (It is noteworthy that the seven previous winners of the Fan Vote had all been inducted in their years).

Eddie Van Halen tribute set for Rock Hall’s HBO Induction Special
2020-10-26 11:19:52Z

CLEVELAND, Ohio — There was some uncertainty given the timing. But the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has managed to put together a small tribute to Eddie Van Halen as part of its 2020 Induction Ceremony Special.

The tribute will make up a portion of the show set to air at 7 p.m., Nov. 7 on HBO and HBO Max. For the sake of spoilers, we won’t describe the details of the tribute here, other than to say it does feature multiple guitar gods paying homage to the Van Halen guitarist who passed away on Oct. 6 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 65.

The Eddie Van Halen tribute is part of the Rock Hall special’s in memoriam section, which also honors other rock and roll legends who have died over the past year and a half. That list includes Little Richard, Neil Peart, Ric Ocasek, Ginger Baker and several others.

From Greg Renoff
I’ve heard whispers that this tribute to EVH by @rockhall *may* include some snippets of never-before-aired vintage Van Halen footage. Fingers crossed.

I normally don’t say anything about the RRHOF because of all of the head scratchers, but I have to ask: how does Whitney Houston get in before Pat Benatar?

Wow, the Randy Rhoads Award came out of nowhere. Hope they honor EVH in a proper way.
