Michael Anthony Downplays Van Halen Reunion Rumors By Andrew Magnotta December 27, 2018
Former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony is throwing some ice water onto rumors that he’s rejoining the iconic band he helped build for a reunion tour next summer.
On the heels of David Lee Roth’s comments about playing Yankee Stadium in 2019, Eddie Trunk related additional speculation that Alex and Eddie Van Halen were interested in again working with their former bassist.
Premiere Radio Networks, a division of iHeartRadio, reached out to Anthony on Wednesday as the rumors caught on. Van Halen fans aren’t going to like what he said.
“The only comment I have is that I haven’t spoken to any of the guys since we last played together back in 2004,” Anthony told Premiere.
He added that while he did run into Alex Van Halen “a few years back,” the two didn’t get into anything more than small talk.

And it’s always this type of non-answer that keeps the rumor alive. Instead of saying, “No. It’s not happening.” you get, “I haven’t talked to the guys since 2004.” Which implies what? The managers or agents are talking and working out all of the details with Mike and the there is no direct communication between Dave, Ed Al and Mike? The fact that he doesn’t say, “No. I’m not going back on tour with Van Halen.” will fuel this rumor even more.

A Facebook event page has popped up and is getting a lot of traction, claiming the original Van Halen will play at Yankee Stadium on June 5, 2019.

While based on David Lee Roth’s comments a Yankee Stadium show seemed likely, this is definitely a prank, as it says the show is being promoted by Vandelay Industries, a fictional company that George Costanza claims to have been interviewed for as a latex salesman in when applying for an extension at the unemployment office in the Seinfeld episode, “The Boyfriend, Part 1”. Touche, troll.

Bingo. Can no one in this band give a straight answer?

Dave’s getting free publicity for his business venture.

This is another way of communicating to the band that he’s ready to go on the road.

When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor?
