Rhino/Warner is releasing a 6-CD Box Set of all the Dave-era Van Halen albums in Europe and Japan in late February and/or March.

“6CDs in paper mini-jackets, housed in a smart clamshell box. This limited edition boxset includes albums Van Halen, Van Halen II, Women And Children First, Fair Warning, Diver Down and 1984.”

Yeah, I think I’ll pass on buying all those for the 14th time. All you’ll be buying is the packaging anyway.

they were already digitally remastered once years back. I have all of them. Wondering what this re release of the same thing in a different box is for?

I’m gonna pass on this one. I wish they would release the Sam era discs and digitally remaster those ones. Thats never been done before.

A couple of things.

a) this box set is not a US release.
b) the SH era discs have been remastered and released…in Japan. (Forever Young series)

For any Aussies wanting this box set, JB HIFI will have it from March 1. $34.99. I’ll probably grab one just for the sake of it. It’s not badly priced either…

Seeing them listed together there, I’m reminded of how short all those albums are. Three with only 9 songs – amazing!

Wish they went back to those days, 9 new songs every 18 months…

Van Halen: The Studio Albums 1978-1984, album review
Eddie Van Halen is one of the planet’s greatest guitar players and there is an impressive body of work in this Van Halen box set.
3.5 out of 5 stars

Mine too. I know that Jeff @ the VHStore was selling them online (taking pre-orders), but I see that the item has been pulled from the site. The only thing I could find on it is an update to a story that ran at the VHND: http://www.vhnd.com/2013/02/06/van-halen-the-studio-albums-1978-1984/
So it kinda seems that the item was pulled from the VHStore after they found out it wasn’t going to get released in the US. Not sure why the VHStore couldn’t offer the “import” set though. (shrug)

My brother-in-law, who is stationed with the Army Band in Zama, Japan, had me covered. I don’t know if he bought me 1 or 2. He sent me an email this monring saying it was mailed out yesterday.

Maybe Warner/Rhino didn’t want to cannibalize sales of the still-for-sale back catalog titles, since buying the discs in this box set is cheaper than buying them separately.
