“A couple minutes into the band’s first song, “Panama,” Roth cut his nose as he was spinning his microphone stand like a drum major. The band stopped. Explaining with typical good humor what had just happened, the singer retreated side-stage to tend to the wound.
Roth’s blood loss, though, was our gain. While away, fans were treated to an improvised jam among the three Van Halens onstage. They riffed on “Panama,” Eddie working his guitar with miraculous deftness, Alex and Wolfgang tugging at the rhythm. The diversion illustrated the depth of the trio’s playing, and confirmed a hard rock unit that sounded as tight as ever.
When Roth returned, he was wearing a prominent bandage across his nose. For continuity’s sake, the band restarted “Panama” from the top and continued as though nothing had happened. Those in attendance knew otherwise, even if the edited version broadcast on Monday night made no mention of the mishap.”
I wondered what the deal was. There was a point during the performance where Ed gave Dave this ‘Don’t screw up’ look.
I thought that Dave was wearing one of those Breathe Right nose strips to help with his singing.
The gum he was chewing may have helped his voice.
A decent performance despite Dave being a ham for the camera.

Kimmel is showing the nose bump during the opening of his show tonight and he said Dave had to go to the hospital after the show and they had to put 14 stitches in his nose.
According to the proshot footage shown on Jimmy Kimmel tonight, this is incorrect. You can clearly see the pole Dave is swinging hit his nose as they show it in slow motion in forward and reverse motion. Not saying the necklace didn’t hit him. Maybe it was a combination of the two, but the Kimmel footage is much clearer and I would think that someone in the VH camp probably told him what actually happened. Just my .02 and not that it’s a huge issue.
They only showed Hot For Teacher and cut out during Ed’s solo as they ran out of time, but it said the full videos will be online at Jimmy Kimmel’s website. Bummer.
guitard: So earlier I thought Eddie was mouthing the word “cut” — but in this video you can actually hear it.He looks at Dave in disbelief and says, “WHAT?” Watching a video like this is why I love fan videos.This is so much better than the official tv version.
Wow, GREAT footage! OK. guys, I’m already working on a VH 2015 media collection DVD title. YEAH! Would you want to see this video in it or the official broadcast? We already know what Guitard prefers. They’re both great – like Frosted Flakes!
