guitard (7354) | I’m in the middle of the 2-cam mix of the 2004 Atlanta show. I think it’s really going to turn out well as the two angles really compliment each other and allow for a nice, easy, natural mix and flow. The near angle is shot from the seats looking down from on high from the near left side of the stage. Normally that wouldn’t make for a great angle, but because of the 2004 stage setup, where instead of a more traditional rectangular stage with the band typically always facing directly out toward the crowd – the band members were often facing to the sides or at least turned part way to the side. So this angle turned out really great. The other angle is shot straight from the back. Both are digital cameras (remember – in 2004, a lot of guys were still shooting with analog tape cams), so the picture quality is really nice. There will be two audio streams to choose from in the DVD – an audie/ALD matrix and the ALD by itself. Both are very enjoyable and yet the contrast between the two is such that when you change from one to the other – it’s almost like watching a different show. I can picture a lot of people switching back and forth a lot once they realize how distinctly different the viewing experience is between the two audio options. While listening to the matrix, you get the feel of being there with the rest of the crowd. However, when listening to the ALD, your ears really perk up and you start zeroing in on all the crisp and sometimes very subtle sounds that you don’t normally hear due to the crowd noise. Now I know that a lot of people have listened to the ALD audio and just about everyone bags on Ed because he was drunk and acting a little weird. The assumption is that this ruined the show. I would have to disagree. Yes, Ed was drunk and singing way the fuck off-key and his playing was sloppy at times. But he was a ‘happy’ drunk that night. The band actually was having a really good time and it was a fun show. But you don’t really get that vibe from only listening to the audio – you have to watch the video to pick up on it. CBG will release this sometime in September. guitardQuote |

vhrob (1745) | can’t wait to see this. Been listening to the soundboard style audio for years. It’ll be cool seeing it with the audio now. Rob vhtrading member since 2000 vhrobQuote |

jroundy (1418) | I am not much of a fan of the 2004 tour, because it’s difficult for me to listen to how awful Ed is. But… this project sounds really interesting! The poor folks play for keeps down here…They’re the living dead. Nobody rules these streets at night like Van Halen!! jroundyQuote |
