video: (CBG) Ricoh R-600 (same specs as Sony CCD-V5) 8mm camcorder (w/ 2X teleconverter lens) master 8mm analog tape; NTSC, 4:3 PAR, 29.97 fps; transferred to harddrive via a firewire using a Sony TRV-330 8mm digital camera w/ Time Base Correction; video capture, editing, and 2-pass VBR encoding done with Sony Vegas Pro 13 at 8.2K max, 7K avg, 1K min; authored to DVD in Sony DVD Architect Pro 6.

audio: recorded w/ Aiwa-CM30A mic through the Ricoh R-600′s external mic in jack; captured with the video from the master 8mm analog tape; audio tweaking done using Sony Vegas Pro 13′s 10-band EQ plug-in; LPCM 1536 bit.

A 1 minute 13 second segment of “There’s Only One Way To Rock” from the 1988-10-17 Providence show is used to cover up a long security duck at this show.

I will upload, let them get seeded by others and after a majority have downloaded the files completely, remove my files so I can seed something new. This is “CBG Classic Master Video Series Vol. 47”.

This was the last Van Halen 1988 show I would film. The night before in Providence, the show ran longer than the previous few I had just gone to and I ran out of tape at the end of the song Rock and Roll that night. I would not make that mistake twice here in Worcester. This night I brought in two tapes and it is good I did it because the show was about 10 minutes over 2 hours where Providence the night before was only like 3-4 min over. I am sure Eruption is extended more and probably some of Sammy’s raps with the crowd.

This string of VH shows in the arenas was a major accomplishment for me as VH was one of my favorite bands and they had just played stadiums on the Monsters of Rock Tour and now they were in arenas where I could get in closer with the zooms. They also played a few different songs including my favorite ‘5150’. I felt a lot of pressure to try and get these when they were announced because they were all in arenas where I didn’t think I could get my camcorder into these arenas and film. I really only filmed one time in these arenas and felt I got lucky to get into the places in those instances.

So now that all of the VH shows were completed and I was able to get them all except one (Nassau Coliseum was just too tough of a search and I ended up doing audio only in that show), it was a sense of relief that I had tapes of all of the shows. It also slowed down for the fall and I was able to catch my breath before 1989 started up and a whole new set of tours. 1988 and 1989 were really different from a bands on the road perspective. This would come to be the norm as years went by, but at the time it didn’t seem like it would change that much, but it did very quickly. After several years gone by, you can see it easily, but as it is happening, it is just time flying by.
