mcs5150 (1096) | As always, thanks to CBG and guitard!!! http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=578419 Van Halen video: (CBG) Ricoh R-600 (same specs as Sony CCD-V5) 8mm camcorder (w/ 2X teleconverter lens) master 8mm analog tape; NTSC, 4:3 PAR, 29.97 fps; transferred to harddrive via a firewire using a Sony TRV-330 8mm digital camera w/ Time Base Correction; video capture, editing, and 2-pass VBR encoding done with Sony Vegas Pro 13 at 8.2K max, 7K avg, 1K min; authored to DVD in Sony DVD Architect Pro 6. audio: recorded w/ Aiwa-CM30A mic through the Ricoh R-600′s external mic in jack; captured with the video from the master 8mm analog tape; audio tweaking done using Sony Vegas Pro 13′s 10-band EQ plug-in; LPCM 1536 bit. All video editing and DVD authoring by Silver Stallion (guitard on Dime). full show – running time 2hr 10 mins (disc 1 – 63 mins) (disc 2 – 67 mins) A 1 minute 13 second segment of “There’s Only One Way To Rock” from the 1988-10-17 Providence show is used to cover up a long security duck at this show. I only have one request, that you don’t take these files and post them on other torrent sites. I have many shows to upload. I will upload, let them get seeded by others and after a majority have downloaded the files completely, remove my files so I can seed something new. I prefer to manage my own shows on DIME and The Traders Den. I will upload to other sites when I wish to for select shows. Thanks for honoring my wishes in advance. This is “CBG Classic Master Video Series Vol. 47”. This was the last Van Halen 1988 show I would film. The night before in Providence, the show ran longer than the previous few I had just gone to and I ran out of tape at the end of the song Rock and Roll that night. I would not make that mistake twice here in Worcester. This night I brought in two tapes and it is good I did it because the show was about 10 minutes over 2 hours where Providence the night before was only like 3-4 min over. I am sure Eruption is extended more and probably some of Sammy’s raps with the crowd. This string of VH shows in the arenas was a major accomplishment for me as VH was one of my favorite bands and they had just played stadiums on the Monsters of Rock Tour and now they were in arenas where I could get in closer with the zooms. They also played a few different songs including my favorite ‘5150’. I felt a lot of pressure to try and get these when they were announced because they were all in arenas where I didn’t think I could get my camcorder into these arenas and film. I really only filmed one time in these arenas and felt I got lucky to get into the places in those instances. So now that all of the VH shows were completed and I was able to get them all except one (Nassau Coliseum was just too tough of a search and I ended up doing audio only in that show), it was a sense of relief that I had tapes of all of the shows. It also slowed down for the fall and I was able to catch my breath before 1989 started up and a whole new set of tours. 1988 and 1989 were really different from a bands on the road perspective. This would come to be the norm as years went by, but at the time it didn’t seem like it would change that much, but it did very quickly. After several years gone by, you can see it easily, but as it is happening, it is just time flying by. Enjoy Van Halen in Worcester until the next time they are back with a new album and tour in 1991. CBG5150 Posted to DIME 2016-12-04. mcs5150Quote |

mcs5150 (1096) | I am downloading it via Dime. I was one of the first to jump on; I am seeing how much I can seed this way. At this stage, not looking good. mcs5150Quote |

I can’t give out any Dropbox links until someone at Dime has completed the download (per CBG’s request). So I recommend you stick with it for now. guitardQuote |

I was aware with CBG’s request. I am a long way from being in ratio trouble at Dime so I thought I would see how much I could seed if I was one of the first people to jump on. Currently downloaded 590mb, uploaded 168mb. mcs5150Quote |

guitard (7354) | There are always a handful of people with seedboxes who can upload 15-20X the size of the torrent – and make it impossible for the other 90% to even sniff a 1:1 ratio. Kind of sucks, but that’s the world we live in these days. guitardQuote |

mcs5150 (1096) | The one thing I don’t understand is why the people with seedboxes upload so much if their ratio is well above 1:1. mcs5150Quote |

I’ve gone around and around on this at Dime’s Yahoo mailing list over the years trying to push for (at least on a trial basis) not having a share ratio requirement. My main argument for this is that the era of having to force people to give back or else risk the system not being able to sustain itself – is long gone. I say, if there isn’t a share ratio requirement and everyone who wants to download a show can still do so relatively easily – then why not eliminate the share ratio requirement? I mean … the whole point is to SHARE the music. But instead of freely sharing – we’ve reached this crossroads where a lot of people are afraid to jump on a torrent because of what it will do to their share ratio. I’m convinced with all these seedboxes and fat upload pipes out there now — there is no need for share ratio enforcement. But every time I’ve tried to make a case for eliminating share ratios – the same people trot out the same old tired arguments about hit-and-run downloaders, fairness in giving back what you take, the system won’t be able to sustain itself, etc., etc. And no matter how hard I to try to convince them – their heads are stuck in 2005 and they act like you’re crazy for even suggesting a change to the share ratio requirement. guitardQuote |

guitard (7354) | And now that I think of it – Dime does do a trial every year of not having a share ratio requirement during the end-of-year month of “Freeloader Days.” You’d think they would realize after that month of allowing people to download with no hit on their share ratio – that the system is just fine without the requirement. But no … guitardQuote |

mcs5150 (1096) | Just a stupid situation. There will be people that will hit-and-run, but there are always people who still seed stuff; just look at tv and movie show trackers. mcs5150Quote |

ed5150 (211) | To prevent the seeboxes issues, I don’t know if it’s technically possible, but they could limit a user upload rate when his ratio hits 1.5 or 2 on a specific torrent, if there are still other uploaders below 1. Anyway, thanks CBG and guitard ! ed5150Quote |

That’ll never happen because the prevailing wisdom at Dime regarding seedboxes is that they are good for business. In other words, the more upload bandwidth being dedicated to a torrent, the better. In theory, that is true. However, in practice, as we have seen time and again – the vast majority of people can’t compete with the seedboxes and some (many?) of them end up deciding not to download shows that they want. guitardQuote |

So, how did you do? I know I didn’t jump on because of the ratio problem. ronQuote |

I ended uploading 2.52 GB. I was offline for a few hours (had about 2 GB to catch up). Being generous let us say I would have uploaded another 1 GB (likely a lot less); there still would have been a difference of 5 GB. Basically the only way I can make up the difference if I keep it on my computer for a long time and end up being the last person seeding the torrent. mcs5150Quote |
