JasonA: Alan, will this new find delay episode 5 of your documentary from being released this week? Are you editing like mad to use all this new Donnington footage in it? :-P

Not using any of that footage. Gooch will copyright strike my channel. It will come out next week. Tomorrow, I’m dropping a never-published Alex interview.

The last Van Halen pro photo with the orginal four before the band broke up. (Minus pics taken on the set of HFT) Takin in Munich in 84 by Didi Zill. Please correct me if you know of any photoshoots with the whole group later than this.

With the color, outfits & poses, it looks like those bad high school photos

The July/August issue of Guitare Xtreme Magazine (Numéro 125) had a blurb in it about the doc. Google translated the text as:

The year 1984 undoubtedly marked the high point of Van Halen’s career with the mega-hits “Jump”, “Panama” and “Hot For Teacher”. At that time, the ego struggles and tensions between singer David Lee Roth and the other members continued to fuel the group’s creativity and did not yet threaten its balance or its existence. Long-time Van Halen fan Alan C. Berry, a professional video editor, worked hard for seven months to create a five-episode mini-series that will be broadcast for free on YouTube. He said: “I have been able to gather a lot of information through my research and my series includes many previously unpublished documents, interviews and images that have never been seen by the public. >> On the menu of the five episodes, the development of the famous studio 5150, the mega-concert given by the group at the US Festival in 1983 (with a record fee for the time of one and a half million dollars), the production of the album 1984 (certified five times platinum only a year after its release), the pharaonic tour which followed its release (at the end of which tensions with Roth became unbearable) and the explosion of the group prefiguring the period Van Hagar. A must see !

WHAT?? Never heard of this. Is this an actual hard-copied magazine? I’d love to see it. Thank you!

Just dropped a never-published interview with Sammy from 1997. He talks a lot about his split from VH.
