Notes from Lou:

Previously uncirculated show. Received the WAV files via ffoner, who received them from the taper. I did not change anything except FLAC to level 8 and auto-fix the sector boundary errors via Trader’s Little Helper.

I wonder if Bottom’s Up! and/or Atomic Punk were played (the typical encores for 1979), and the tape ran out. Song-wise the recording is identical to the Los Angeles 10/7/79 show with YRGM as the last song, and again I wonder if that was actually the end, or the tape ran out there. As you can hear, Eddie does the “Eyes of the Night” tease, and Dave does the “Disco Sucks!” chant, which were only heard on the LA 10/7/79 show. I had thought that was unique to the LA show, but I guess they were doing that for all the remaining 1979 shows after returning from Japan.

The taper also posted this show on YouTube:

Notes by the taper, in responding to question of what equipment was used:

“I believe it was a Sanyo portable cassette recorder with the condenser mic that came with it. I strapped it to my leg….ahhh the wide leg, flare jean days. Lol I did the original digital transfer around 1999 using an early ‘80’s Sony deck and a Creative sound card that had analog inputs. I used a old version of Nero for the capture. I burned it to 2 CD’s with no track breaks. Earlier this year I located the CD’s and dumped the wav files to my computer. I used some software called Spin it Again (used it for vinyl rips) and raised the levels as the original rip had lower than normal levels. I then re-saved it out in 24/96, wav, flac, and 320 mp3. I still have the original cassette tape in storage in a box…somewhere. I came across it last year. It would be cool to get it into the hands of someone with a better deck. I’m glad I was able to share this concert with so many VH fans to enjoy. I was a 16 yr old kid when I recorded the concert. It was a great show and something I will never forget.”

Dean’s notes

I dig the WHOLE story behind this recording! From ‘ffoner’ locating the YT post…and all that transpired after! Great job to ALL involved! As usual, my artwork is included in the torrent!
