ron (11779) | http://www2.gibson.com/News-Lifestyle/Features/en-us/shred-stars-0803-2011.aspx 6. Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen) Guitar icon Eddie Van Halen altered what it means to play electric guitar with Van Halen’s 1978 self-titled debut, creating a dazzlingly, lightning-fast technique with meticulous tapping, hammer-ons, pull-offs and wild-sounding effects. It was madly dramatic, and coupled with theatrical singer David Lee Roth, the style brought metal to a new level of performance art. Flying solo, Eddie also backed other artists’ records, everyone from Michael Jackson (on “Beat It”) to Rodger Waters (“Lost Boys Calling”). With Van Halen’s new album reportedly almost finished, Van Halen interest is at a peak, and Eddie, once again, is stealing the spotlight. ronQuote |

VAiN (2777) | I don’t think of EVH as a metal player at all… I assume that list was made late 2011 or early 2012? Resident dickhead. I will hurt your delicate feelings. VAiNQuote |

eruption1962 (1366) | Going by this list…Ed needs to be #1…RR #2…then drop everyone else down a peg or two! But, I don’t consider EVH or RR metal guitarists! eruption1962Quote |

Wes (6118) | Lists like these are silly. It’s subjective….and everyone has favorites, but there is no definitive “best” guitarist. It’s not a fucking competition for christ’s sake. VHT Facebook Group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/3731315524 WesQuote |

eruption1962 (1366) | How about this…not really metal by any stretch of the imagination…but as a guitar player myself, I think this is pretty solid! EVH In reality, I’d say Satch is a better axeman than Slash…but his style is too similar to Vai’s to be included…but either way…Slash or Satch! eruption1962Quote |

sickman (2380) | I can remember back in 99-00 when I was running sound for bands, whenever we were in a biker bar there actually would be drunks in the crowd yelling freebies. sickmanQuote |

Mink (2663) | I like EVH the best, but I would include Matthias Jabs and George Lynch. I think Jabs guitar work helped propel the Scorpions to the next level after Uli left. Then with Lynch, Tooth and Nail, Under Lock and Key, and Back for the Attack are a tri-fecta of albums. His guitar work is outstanding on those three. MinkQuote |
