I think it’s a sign of how seriously Dave doesn’t take the new material. He could care less. I’m not saying he doesn’t care about the performance because that I think he does, he just doesn’t care to sing the new tunes because he probably thinks most of the audience is there to hear the classics. sickmanQuote |

Does Dave take the older material seriously ? It seems to apply across the board. I love the new album. Wolfs playing stands out in the mix. When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor? mrmojohalenQuote |

He forgot many lyrics to many songs. I’ll Wait comes to mind off the top of my head. VOODOOQuote |

PT5150 (6291) | I think this time live if Dave wont sing or cant remember the lyrics he takes a break off stage and the band plays the likes of A mash up of just the music with parts of these songs combined would be cool.. May be even some Sammy era music… EDDIE’S fingers aren’t fingers they are muscle-powered pistons that hammer guitar strings to the fretboard with the force of a rivet gun”. PT5150Quote |

VOODOO (2376) | I doubt you’ll never hear Dave do Hagar stuff. I’d like to hear them pull out a few songs they haven’t done like Drop Dead Legs, CGTSNM or Me Wise Magic. Light Up the Sky sounded killer on the last tour sound checks. That would be an awesome opener. It would be cool to hear As Is or Honeybabysweetiedoll, too. VOODOOQuote |

I meant they just play the music to a Hagar era VH song while Dave takes a break, a mash up of all different songs Dave wont sing from all era’s.. Or even in Ed’s solo he does guitar parts from various songs, would love to even hear the FIRE IN THE HOLE riff or part of the solo from ONE I WANT or YEAR TO THE DAY solo AMSTERDAM etec etc…. EDDIE’S fingers aren’t fingers they are muscle-powered pistons that hammer guitar strings to the fretboard with the force of a rivet gun”. PT5150Quote |

Yeah, you’d think he’d try to do something to be able to actually sing the songs. But, again, he’s been doing this since the 80s. VOODOOQuote |

chrisc (691) | Isn’t the charm of Dave singing, that he forgets the words?! I really like the CD, and the VH songs I actually am tired of hearing on the radio, DTNA and Cradle being the two I am most tired of, sound great here. DTNA may be my favorite on the set. Ed, Al and Wolf sound great, and Dave is Dave. So it works for me, I would actually be in shock if he really sang all the words! Get busy living or get busy dyin chriscQuote |

I remember at the Boston 2012 show he had the lyrics to Hang em Hign on the drum riser. A lot of musicians use the teleprompters. I’ve seen Guns n Roses use them as well as Ozzy and even The Foo Fighters. Dave really should use one, even just to get the verse right. sickmanQuote |

mikeyV (335) | teleprompters would make no difference. The way that Dave approaches his role in Van Halen, he’s going to be ahead or behind the teleprompter. I think if he used one, Dave would come off worse. I think, to Dave, using a teleprompter is NOT rock n roll, hence, you don’t use one. He can use that, a blimp flying overhead, an assistant following him on stage with a 24×36 poster of the lyrics… hell, get another tattoo with the lyrics. I don’t care how, but he needs to step it up in a big way. The TV appearances were borderline terrible vocally.. the band was hot and sounded awesome. I really have no answer or solution for what Dave is thinking and doing. They need a band meeting with a 3rd party to mediate. Between the lazy live album and not blowing us away -as a unit- on TV I really think the 3-month gap between now and the first show is going to hurt ticket sales. Maybe that’s the only way to get a message across. Resident dickhead. I will hurt your delicate feelings. VAiNQuote |
