This Lego M&Ms sorting machine would get Van Halen’s seal of approval

If you’re the kind of person who likes order in your every day life, you may want to take a moment and consider building an M&Ms sorting machine out of Lego.

While the jury is out on whether or not certain colors of M&Ms actually taste better than their brethren, sometimes there’s a legitimate need to separate your candy by color. And frankly, YouTube user Nxt1engineer has built an M&M sorting machine that would make Van Halen proud.

The machine determines the color of an M&M and then groups the various colors together by adjusting an arm that lets the M&Ms fall into the right funnel before pushing them out into a bigger container at the bottom of the machine. The device, according to Gizmodo, was built for “the children.” I know a few adults that would get a kick out of this, too.

For those of you wondering why there’s a Van Halen reference in a story about an M&Ms sorting machine, that band was notorious for including a clause in their performance riders that asked venues to provide a bowl of M&Ms in their dressing rooms. The twist, however, was that the bowl couldn’t contain any brown M&Ms.
