I got the CDs today and I am just getting to check them out. So far, to me, three songs in, 5150 is very disappointing. It wasn’t mixed well originally, but this new version sounds like they boosted the bass and pulled the mids down, so that it actually sounds muffled. I’m playing clips from the original and then playing the remasters back to back. I’m not looking forward to FUCK and Balance. Those two didn’t need any tinkering, IMO. OU812 always needed work, so I’m hoping that one pops for me like it did for mrmojohalen. Was the vinyl mixed properly for vinyl? I’m debating getting those if the CDs are this poorly done. I mean, Eddie seems buried in the mix and it’s all bass and drums so far.
OK. I am going to leave the last post up and then follow up with this: I switched from bluetooth to wired headphones direct from the sound card, it it’s a totally different experience. LOL Starting over….
Keep in mind that these were NOT remixed, only remastered. And that guy doing the review on Youtube doesn’t understand the different between the two. And his reviews are based on listening to a cheap CD player going into a bluetooth speaker.
Personally, I very much like these new versions. Especially for everything from 1995-on. The original releases were brickwalled, and the new versions are not. Regasrdless of what you think of the new EQ on them, just getting them with full dynamics intact automatically makes them better for me.
I On my first few listens in the car via Spotify I am hearing more drums and bass higher in the mix. I’m keen to listen on my good headphones and also when I get the CDs and play them on my home stereo unit. The other albums I’m not really fussed on as I thought the mixes were ok..
Anyway if Al won’t release more rare stuff we need more stuff leaked like the Diver Down sessions. Excellent stuff.
