thismusicsux(590) | guitard: I just tried explaining Steel Panther to a co-worker.But they are kind of hard to describe to someone who has never heard of them.They are kind of a joke … but they are very talented musicians and write really funny and entertaining songs.Big Hair ’80s metal is supposed to be all about getting layed and putting on “the look” – but probably half of what they do is homophobic, slap stick humor and the bass player makes a big joke out of “the look.”
yeah they are an acquired taste not for everyone. But I love what they do. I used to see them in various incarnations (Atomic Punks of course, Metal Skool before Steel Panther). The stage show and humor is funny as hell… but can get old, still a good time though I LOVE Ralph’s voice and think they are super talented musicians and they worship Van Halen  Plus I do love their songs (under all the silly lyrics are cool tunes even if taking a little swipe at 80′s cliches). Most of their songs and/or ballads are better than the original songs they are based on

guitard(7354) | I was curious about the guitarist Russ Parrish (AKA “Satchel”) and checked Wikipedia: In the early 1990s, Parrish was an instructor at The Guitar Institute of Technology (G.I.T.) at Hollywood’s Musician’s Institute while playing with Racer X offshoot Bad Dog with vocalist Jeff Martin and The Electric Fence with Martin and Paul Gilbert. He has worked extensively with Gilbert and has writing credits on several Paul Gilbert tracks.
That’s actually a pretty damned impressive resume for a guitarist.

Gilligan(1518) | “What are these titty bars you speak of,” asked Gilligan while his wife looked over his shoulder. I agree with a few of you on Steel Panther. They are kind of like porn – I’m kind of embarrassed to see or listen to them with friends, but their fun when I’m by myself. “Not that I know what porn looks like,” says Gilligan as his wife returns to the room.

jroundy(1418) | I think the music itself, is pretty damn good. Out of the three albums they have released, I’d say more than 50% of the music is really good. I probably like the lyrics better than “real bands” or “serious bands”, because they are so different and refreshing, and if you have a good sense of humor, very funny. I watch these guys on YouTube probably as much or more than Van Halen, and that’s saying a lot.
The poor folks play for keeps down here…They’re the living dead. Nobody rules these streets at night like Van Halen!!

haha totally, agree about the lyrics. I’m actually impressed with most of the lyrics (outside of the silliness)… and similar to your VH comment. I can shuffle play the 3 SP records and be happy from start to finish — much like shuffling VH music
