Notes: First and foremost, thank you Hoserama for providing me with a ticket to this show! This was my first time seeing Guns N’ Roses and Mammoth WVH and my first time back at SAP Center since my last pre-pandemic concert to see Tool. It was definitely a trip in how different the experiences were. I met up with Hoserama and crew outside the venue where they were busy finding wireless feeds and I got to hear a portion of the soundcheck, specifically GnR (sans Axl) performing “It’s So Easy”. This was my first time seeing such a wireless setup and without going into too much detail let me say I was incredibly impressed. I gained a huge level of respect for what wireless tapers go through – thank you all for your hard work and dedication!

We went in shortly after opening where we originally set up shop in our assigned section. However, for some reason the only people that actually were there in the section at that time were crowding around us: the rest of it was empty. Feeling the need for more space and to get away from the guy that kept asking about my Firestone Walker hat we headed over to an emptier section. I recorded Mammoth Wolfang Van Halen from that location. I pointed the mics at the speakers and I think all things considered it came out sounding pretty good for where we were. I enjoyed their performance: I had never heard of them before so it was nice listening to some new music.

This recording does have a slight hiccup in the first song but otherwise it’s fine. I was going to give a Tascam a trial run but I was eating dinner and thought I had more time to spare when the lights turned off. In a moment of panic I just shoved the battery box line into the PCM-A10 and started rolling. I don’t understand why the PCM-A10 has the “Hold” and “Power Off” functionality on the same slider, that is IMHO a poor UX decision. The lack of giving the Tascam a trial run came back to bite my ass when taping GnR. Oh well! All in all, a fun set of concerts back, and I’m glad I got to meet Hoserama and crew. Looking forward to the next one!

When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor?
