I remember the press conference for the Australian show, and Billy Joel said if he stinks, he will stop performing, and Dave asked him if he was serious.Dave couldn’t believe Billy Joel said that.
I suspect Dave will get up on the stage and try to sing no matter how bad his voice gets… I don’t know if he could ever say what Billy Joel said.
But Dave has never been known as a singer – he’s a showman. He doesn’t have to sing well to entertain his audience. He just has to be Dave.

Dave’s voice was one the most unique, and awesome things about Van Halen. To me, his voice was almost important as Ed’s guitar playing.
1978 – 1991 Dave was my favorite singer by far… not for his lyrics, or his range, but because he had the most unique and amazing voices in all of music.
To say Dave is not a singer, and he is only a showman…. means when you listen to all the Van Halen records from 78-84, and Dave’s solo records from 88-91 you somehow see Dave, instead of hear Dave. I love Dave not because of what he does on stage, but because of his unique voice.
Dave being the greatest showman, and frontman in all of rock and roll, was just a giant bonus to his unique voice.
I look at musicians and singers like a professional athlete…. when the ability to perform is gone, you need to retire.
The poor folks play for keeps down here…They’re the living dead. Nobody rules these streets at night like Van Halen!!

Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion (my guess), Bangor, ME 4. Royal Farms Arena, Baltimore 5. Jiffy Lube Live, Bristow, VA, Aug. 29th 6. PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ, Sept. 4th 7. Madison Square Garden, New York, NY, Sept. (3 nights) 8. Ak-Chin Pavilion, Phoenix, AZ, Sept. 27th
BTW, checked those venue’s websites for those dates, there are no conflicts….
And, this came up when I Google’d Ak Chin Pavilion events…..
Agreed, but maybe they’re just holding those 3 days for now. They played 2 dates at the Garden last time. Maybe they want to see how the 1st two sell and do a third if the interest is there.
I didn’t realize that VHND was the one to post the “Unchained” preview. It’s not on the official VH YouTube page and it’s the only preview that isn’t a complete track. Good for Jeff! Nice to see he was allowed an exclusive in all of this.
ron: Well, it did leak too early, those outside “the know” would have been confused – thinking tickets went on sale this weekend instead of next.
Not judging. Just saying…it was posted, then the band released the dates and then they yanked it. Obviously it wasn’t posted on a legit YT page, so it was inevitable I guess. Just thought it was funny that it was put out there, then the band released the info and then they yanked it. It’s archived and will be out there again soon in all of the markets.
