You Can’t Help but to “Jump” Into Karine Hannah’s New Heartfelt Release

Growing up in Canada, and at the age of sixteen, Karine Hannah’s performance on a Canadian television show caught the eye of music icon Celine Dion. The world-renowned diva went on to ask Karine Hannah to perform at her wedding, which was merely the start of the success that Karine started to see.

Relocating to New York City, it was weeks of moving to the Big Apple that she linked up with none other than Jim Steinman (Meat Loaf – “Bat Out Of Hell”) and began collaborating with him. Finally finding a home within Cash Money Records/Republic Records, co-founders Ronald “Slim” Williams and Bryan “Baby” Williams chose to sign her as the only pop artist on the label.

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Karine Hannah. We love the vulnerability that you pour into your latest single, “Jump.” With profound lyrics, what moment or story inspired this concept?

Hi!! Thanks for taking this time with me. As this is a cover song, and originally an uptempo rock song that I reimagined as a tender ballad, I heard the lyrics in a new way. The song takes on a whole new meaning since I recorded it. My interpretation talks about wanting a relationship with someone who I love who is not all in, and Reciprocating, because he is having a tough time in life, and it’s hard to give to someone else when you’re not in a good place. And it’s me deciding to go for it, to jump in and try to get him to be with me. In the song, there is no resolution, but it’s all about me pursuing and keeping a positive outlook on the situation.

Being the first pop artist to sign to Cash Money Records, how has your experience been thus far?

That was such a cool moment when I got the news that they wanted to sign me, and a very flattering moment since I was their only pop white female signing ever. It’s been nice being their pop princess, they treated me very well and have given me so much freedom artistically because pop is not their forte.

What has been your biggest takeaway from this experience?

The biggest takeaway I would say is that even though ultimately signing with an urban label was not the greatest move in my career, I was very grateful to have the opportunity to experience signing with a major label, something that most artists dream of, and not everybody gets that grand opportunity and most importantly having people that you are working with that believe in you so strongly, it outweighs the rest.

Has it always been relatively easy for you to share your truth in such a vulnerable way?

Yes, I am an emotional singer, borderline sappy at times I admit, but I’m proud of it, that’s what makes my recordings & live performances so moving to people. For me, sharing my soul and people gravitating and feeling it with you is the best outcome in the world.

How important is this for you when approaching your songwriting?

When I do collaborate or write my own song, I always think of everyone that’s going to listen to my song, I don’t draw on my own experiences, I like to write something that I feel confident that will have a universal message that most can relate to in some way. I always think about that.

What would you like it to be if your audience could take away a central theme from “Jump?”

I think it would really be cool if people that already know this song hear my interpretation and it becomes fresh again and that they hear the lyrics in a completely different way, The way that I’m trying to portray it, as a positive uplifting song of me not giving up in pursuing a great love. It really is a new song and transformed. If that’s the takeaway, my producer Josh Harris and I have really done a good job with it and with this album project of reimagining incredible covers tunes.

Heavy-metal humorists Two Minutes to Late Night have done it again: assemble a mind-blowing all-star lineup for an imaginative and hilarious “bedroom cover.” This time, it’s High on Fire and Sleep gravel-throated riff-master Matt Pike joining drummer Andy Hurley (Fall Out Boy, Racetraitor, the Damned Things), guitarist Mike Sullivan (Russian Circles) and, of course, Two Minutes’ own Jordan Olds, A.K.A. Gwarsenio Hall, who takes up bass. The song? A d-beat reinvention of Van Halen’s 1981 single “Unchained,” with Pike doing his best/worst David Lee Roth while wearing a teased blonde wig and singing into a can of hairspray.

WOW…..Not sure what I think about this one.
