mrmojohalen (6467) | I know this was discussed awhile back – can anyone recommend a brand or model ? When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor? mrmojohalenQuote |

JasonA (1118) | I’ve used several LGs with success, the cheapest model going, like WH14NS40. They probably don’t make that exact one anymore, but I’ve used several different low-end models without problems, in an external enclosure, on Macs. JasonAQuote |

mrmojohalen (6467) | I was looking as this one: It says it uses 2 USB ports. Is this a common thing ? When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor? mrmojohalenQuote |

guitard (7354) | Mojo – I’ve got a used external blu-ray burner that I don’t use anymore. It’s yours for free – but you’ll owe my a beer the next time we go to the same show in GR. guitardQuote |

guitard (7354) | The external drive that I have came with a chord that has two USB plugs on the end that you plug into the computer (officially known as a USB Y cable). My laptop only has three USB ports and I got tired of trying to figure out what to unplug and still try to make it all work, so I said fuck it one day and tried burning a disc with a USB cable with only a single plug on it. It worked just fine – so I never used the dual-plug cable again. My understanding is that the idea behind it is that it provides additional electricity to the external drive, but that it often gets enough power from just a single USB plug if the computer to which it’s plugged in can provide the required amount of power through just one plug. guitardQuote |
