I was told that the plant in Japan burned down, & rather than rebuild, they moved to a building in China because of costs. I have owned 3 Japan Specials, & currently own a prototype set neck, arch top Special that was made in China. It’s called a custom standard, & the fit & finish is as good as any of the Japan guitars I have owned. Made in China doesn’t have to mean poor quality. zr1fevrQuote
