Gilligan (1518) | I just saw Chevy Metal this weekend and had a great time. The band consists of 2 Foo Fighters (Taylor Hawkins and Chris Schiflet) and 1 bass player dude (origins unknown) and they play 70′s “dirt rock” cover songs – mostly “deep” cuts of their favorite stuff. I was happy to see they played more Van Halen than any other band with ripping versions of Panama, I’m the One, Everybody Wants Some & ATBL. I’m the One and EWS had some cool drum solo action and the band and crowd seemed to like the VH songs the best – they at least had the most energy. They bantered a bit before the first VH tune by saying they didn’t play Van Halen songs in the past because their former guitar player wasn’t good enough. Chris then joked that he’s not good enough to play VH either, but he tries. After EWS Chris asked if they could now “play something easier” so they went into a Stones song. Anyway, great band, great fun and obviously really great music. Check ‘em out if they come to your town. They played tunes from Sabbath, Stones, ZZ Top, Greg Khin, Queen, VH, Motley Crue, the Faces, the Knack and more. GilliganQuote |
