Pittfan (16) | It wasn’t supposed to end like this, but given their history, kinda makes sense. Most thought we wouldn’t get to see Dave and Ed together after 84, so maybe we should be grateful with what we got. PittfanQuote |

ron (11801) | Steve Lukather Says There’s No “Drama” Regarding Eddie Van Halen’s Health Toto guitarist Steve Lukather has confirmed that Eddie Van Halen is indeed in poor health, and that’s likely why Van Halen’s summer touring plans didn’t materialize this year. A longtime friend of Van Halen, Lukather’s revelation is the closest the band has come to a public statement on the status of its iconic guitarist. In one recent interview David Lee Roth called talk of Eddie’s failing health “rumors,” but the front man also explained in no uncertain terms earlier this summer that he has never been on good terms with his band’s namesakes, the brothers Eddie and Alex. Lukather qualified his statements by telling Eddie Trunk that he doesn’t communicate with Eddie every day and doesn’t have much in the way of specifics. “They’re laying back and waiting to see what happens next,” Lukather said of Van Halen. “I think they’re on a hiatus. There’s been some health issues that they’re dealing with and stuff like that. We’re older guys now, and to go on the road requires a lot of extra effort in terms of as a human being.” He suggested that his relationship with Eddie is good enough that if something serious was happening, he would know about it. “I don’t think there’s any drama issues that are keeping them from working,” Lukather continued. “I’m not the guy to say anything. I love those brothers so much and we’ve always had a great relationship. I’m a big fan and also adore them as human beings.” Van Halen’s long-rumored reunion with bassist Michael Anthony fell apart for reasons that are still unclear. After announcing his upcoming 2020 Las Vegas residency, Roth commented that he believes Van Halen is “finished” as a live band and that it’s up to him to take care of the band’s legacy while his own health allows. ronQuote |

ron (11801) | October 10, 2019 @ 15:07PM As rumors swirl that Eddie Van Halen is very ill and suffering from an unconfirmed illness , those close to him — including one particular pretty woman — have recently made it a point to visit him, for what they fear may be the last time. Sources tell Fame, Van Halen has gotten some visits from his ex-wife Valerie Bertinelli — who split with the 64-year old rocker in 2002 after 21 years of marriage. Sources say she jumped at the chance to see if there was something she could do to make his days any easier. “She’s just that type of warm, loving and compassionate person,” the source said about Bertinelli, who wed financial planner Tom Vitale in 2011. “When she and Eddie were together, she was always cleaning him up, straightening his tie or helping him comb his hair. That’s the way she is. And I think she feels Eddie needs that now.” Though former front man David Lee Roth recently claimed in a radio interview that Van Halen was near death — possibly battling a return of the tongue cancer that almost killed him in 2000 — he was recently spotted at a Hollywood bar — although not drinking — with very short hair and wearing sunglasses. ronQuote |

ron (11801) | http://www.tmz.com/2019/10/13/eddie-van-halen-traveling-germany-cancer-treatment/ Eddie Van Halen Throat Cancer Treatment in Germany … It All Started with Metal Guitar Pick Eddie Van Halen has been flying between the United States and Germany to get treatment for throat cancer … and we’ve learned he’s been doing it very quietly for years. As for how Eddie developed the cancer … we’re told he believes it’s from a metal guitar pick he used more than 20 years ago. Seems Eddie would cradle the pick in his mouth, and he’s been told that could well have been the source of the cancer, despite the fact he was a heavy smoker. Back in 2000, shortly after he was diagnosed, doctors removed around 1/3 of his tongue. Eddie was diagnosed nearly 20 years ago. Sources with direct knowledge tell us … over the years there were times some of the cancer cells migrated down to his throat, and doctors would scrape them out. Our sources say … Eddie has flown to Germany for 5 years to get radiation treatment, and for the most part it’s worked to keep the disease in check. As for his current condition … there are lots of rumors, but people who know him say he’s seems to be doing okay — at least on the surface. ronQuote |

ron (11801) | http://www.insider.com/eddie-van-halen-probably-didnt-get-cancer-from-guitar-pick-2019-10 Eddie Van Halen thinks he developed cancer from sucking on metal guitar picks, but a doctor says this probably isn’t true Eddie Van Halen blames his metal guitar plectrums for developing cancer, according to TMZ. Sources told the site that the guitarist has been flying between the US and Germany to treat throat cancer, which he thinks was caused by the picks he used to keep in his mouth during shows. Van Halen was diagnosed with mouth cancer in 2000, and had a third of his tongue removed as treatment. But some of the cancer cells have made their way down his throat, TMZ reported, so he has started new treatments to remove them. Van Halen previously theorized about metal picks and cancer back in a 2015 interview with Billboard. “I used metal picks — they’re brass and copper — which I always held in my mouth, in the exact place where I got the tongue cancer,” he told Billboard. “Plus, I basically live in a recording studio that’s filled with electromagnetic energy. So that’s one theory.” He added he was also smoking and “doing a lot of drugs and a lot of everything,” but his lungs are “totally clear.” “This is just my own theory, but the doctors say it’s possible,” he said. Scraping the cancerous cells out of his throat has worked so far and Van Halen’s cancer is in check, according to TMZ. However, according to Dr Tom Micklewright, the medical officer at Push Doctor, plectrums are probably not the cancer’s cause. Micklewright told Insider that neither copper or the metals in brass are considered carcinogenic by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). “Copper coils have been used as contraception in the human body for many years without evidence in increased cancer risk,” Micklewright said. “In contrast, numerous chemicals contained within cigarettes have been conclusively proven to significantly increase cancer risk, and the more likely cause of his throat cancer.” Van Halen was reportedly a heavy smoker, which has been linked with at least 15 different cancers in multiple long term studies. “Research has shown that for every 15 cigarettes smoked, there is a DNA change which could cause a cell in the body to become cancerous,” the Cancer Research UK website states. “But the best way to reduce your risk is to stop smoking completely.” Micklewright said Van Halen’s misconception about the metal plectrums may have come from the fact other metals have been linked with health problems. For example, mercury and lead used to be handled more freely before they were found to be toxic to the brain, kidneys, and other organs. Some cobalt and nickel compounds have also been linked with carcinogenic risk, he said. “However, the impact of these are far outweighed by the proven effect of tobacco smoke on a vast range of human cancers,” he said. “It’s disappointing to see so many publications focus on the metal in this case and miss the opportunity to reinforce the strong public health message about the harms of smoking.” Insider has approached Van Halen’s representatives for comment. ronQuote |
