Axl Rose agrees to rare interview on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’

By Andy Greene, Rolling Stone

Axl Rose has agreed to a very rare television interview on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to promote the upcoming Guns N’ Roses shows at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The “Appetite for Democracy” shows begin Oct. 31st and run for 12 dates through Nov. 24th. Axl will appear on the show on Wednesday, Oct. 24th. As is customary with the Kimmel show, the interview will be broadcast on a one-hour tape delay.

I thought Axl was good on That Metal Show. Seems he has somewhat mellowed with age and is very pleased with his current line up. I think Slash wrote some great licks back in the day but as a guitarist if he had to audition today for the band he wouldn’t make the cut. I liked the lineup with Buckethead and Robin Fiink in 2001 but to me this is the best lineup GNR has had as far as performing live. Now if only they would take the stage on time.

I still like Slash over the new GNR lineup. Maybe as musicians GNR are better, but Slash has a great groove and comes up with some killer licks. His new album absolutely smokes. Much better than the Chinese Democracy IMO.

I agree Mink, he can write great riifs. But I think as an all around guitar player he is one of the most over rated guitarists of all time. I also agree with what someone said in another topic these guitar polls are nothing more than popularity contests. There are tons of really good guitarists who no one ever mentions. I’m kinda fortunate to be an old fart who grew up during the sixties. Young guys ask me all the time “did The Beatles make you want to play guitar.” My answer is not really. The Beatles made us all want to be in a band. Lots of young guys bought guitars but then found out they couldn’t sing worth a shit and put it down. Then along came The Kinks and Dave Davies leads on You Really Got Me,and All Day and All of the night. Then they all wanted to be guitarists. It was the first killer lead solos we ever heard. Then from there it went crazy with The Yardbirds,Cream,Hendrix, and then of course Led Zeppelin. Another great thing about being old is my first concerts I ever went to as a teen were Cream, and Jimi Hendrix. Also got to see Zep seven times.
Much better than growing up on rap crap and hip hop slop!

Agreed… I feel really bad for young people in 2012. Music SUUUUUUUUUUCKS. It’s terrible. What a piece of shit the entire 2000′s were. I’m ready for a rock band to come back. We’re due.. what is it – every 20-25 years or so you get that great band?

Resident dickhead. I will hurt your delicate feelings.

It amazes me when I go to a concert these days and see a whole lot of younger people there who weren’t even born when these groups rose to popularity. I remember reading a comment by Ian Gillan of Deep Purple about ten years ago when he looked out the curtain from the stage and turned to his daughter and said,”wow there’s a lot of young people out there.” His daughter replied,”dad you guys are cool again ! ” About a month ago my 15 year old grand daughter came over with her boy freind who I never met yet. Turns out he plays guitar. She took him into my music room with all my records,cd’s and dvd’s. He didn’t come out for over an hour and told my daughter he feels like he’s in rock n roll heaven! Needless to say I was burning dvd’s for him for over an hour. He said to me ” I really like your grand daughter but her taste in music sucks. ” What a fine young man! LMAO!!

One of the most underated guitarist that is NEVER mentioned (and its probably because no one knows his name including me) is the guy from the band MC5. That guy did some shit live that some today can’t touch. I had seen an interview with Nugent “I thought I was a badass on the guitar until I seen MC5, I’m a sack of potatoes”! For the early seventies Nugent was something and for him to say that, says alot. I thought his name was Wayne something—-anyway check him out.
