Hey guys,

I just got a new computer as my old MAC desktop finallly died after a long run lol…. I have downloaded my entire Itunes library (with all the old VH stuff / bootlegs, CDs and stuff I hace ripped from youtube audio etc) to the new computer and set up Audacity so I can rip the youtube audio stuff and drag it to my itunes library…. before I needed to use “Soundflower” as an audio source to work with audacity to get the audio to record but when I tried to get it last night it says its discontinued and no longer available. I used to open audacity, open youtube and then click on system preferences and sound and then switch from the internal speakers to soundflower and that would allow me to rip the audio.

Does anyone know of a free sound source that I could use to work with audactiy similar to soundflower so I can do this stuff again?

Thanks guys any help would be appreciated to the old man (50 year club now haha) with minimal technological experience haha

Actually I just caught this YouTube video and it says you dont need anything else just make these adjustments in Audacity sound menu and you’re fine…. I wonder if this was always the case and I never needed Soundflower in my old Mac and could have just done this to get the sound to record….. guess I will try this when I get home…

I am seeing now that a program called “BlackHole virtual audio” is a sound flower replacement for MAC users. Guess I will see if I can download that later after work and see if that works…

Hi Rob

Dirk here (also 50)
You could try the app ClipGrab (free)
it lets you download youtube videos with also the option to download audio only
If its 1 long track (concert) you still need audacity to cut the tracks
hope this helps

Just an update!!!!

I was able to get the Black hole / Audacity combo to work for ripping YouTube audio…. after hours of screaming, swearing, smashing things etc hahaha JK, I figured out what the problem was… yes google is your friend however in my defense…. I had been doing this and did not see this l little note until last night. I needed to click on system preferences, Security and privacy, microphone and then click (allow) audio on Audacity…. lol figures it was such a stupid little thing hahaha….

Anyways I am somewhat proud of myself I was able to figure it out myself however it was such a stupid little thing that I was missing. Regardless,

ROCK ON!! haha

We’ve all been there, done that, my friend. At least you did not pay $100 for someone to tell you to turn your computer off and on.
