When something is released in the CD format, it is very, very easy to get that CD to FLAC, SHN, APE or MP3 for that matter and that puppy will be downloaded and uploaded like mad. Vinyl is a different story. Many don’t even have a turn table (a decent one) or the ability to convert the vinyl to digital. Like mikeyV said that’s probably why the vinyl route. In time though it will probably be digitized.

mikeyV: I’m looking at whats being said on board. The bottom line of this thread is get the damn record, rip to digital and start trading. With these shows being done on “vinyl”, it appears that the only recourse at this time is to do a digital transfer and clean it up.Is this going to be as good as the Master possibly in Flac?My experience says no, but what the hell do I know. I was just curious as to if anyone has the Pogo show in digital format that would sound better than a digital transfer of the LP. My second thought of these unreleased shows. To acquire these shows it cost time and money. Trading shows for the benefit of trading shows to spread the love isn’t always the smart way to go.So they went old school and they put them on vinyl first, with stellar packaging, to recoup the overall cost of acquiring the shows. If they had released it by way of CD, they would never have recoup the cost. Now if and when you guys put them to digital, and you will, it will spread like wildfire, but the brothers at MadHatter will have already acquired their return on their investment…..and you have to do LP to digital transfer, chances are Madhatter may still have a superior product in the long run. Just my two cents….. MikeyV

Mike – You’re right that a lossless recording in FLAC is superior to a lossless vinyl transfer. There is no indication that these shows will ever be released in a lossless format. That being said, I don’t think anyone here would complain about a vinyl transfer, given the stellar sound of these shows. Are you suggesting that MadHatter purchased the masters from someone, perhaps a roadie ? And, are you suggesting that the phrase ‘Madhatter may still have a superior product in the long run” means that they will release these in a digital format ?

No, what I’m saying is that the vinyl released by MadHatter is basically your master, thats the best YOUR going to have. As far as how the transfer to vinyl went…..I have to assume from a some sort of tape to digital to vinyl. Hell I just have damn good contacts……………perhaps Randy or Ron could invite Roger to drop by and visit and see if he has any knowledge of the process.

My apologies, the second part of your question, these guys are old school and love the Vinyl. My understanding is that they will never release in a digital format.

I wonder, will these guys keep releasing ‘new’ recordings even if vinyl to digital transfers of previous releases start making the rounds? I know plenty of us would donate to the cause to help get the recordings out to the VHTraders, but will that hinder more gems from being released…..??

I believe Roger was banned from the old site for selling. I imagine he lurks here..

Mike – Do you know if the samples that have been posted are pure digital lossless or are they samples from vinyl ?

Since you have as you say ‘damn good contacts’, do you know where the recordings came from and how much

was paid to obtain them ? If you end up getting copies of the shows on vinyl, would you be willing to transfer & share ?

If I remember correctly, he has at least one of the shows because he mentioned he had an extra copy.

Don’t know if this got already posted elsewhere here but apparently the West Palm Beach show from July 6, 1979 is being sold on certain FB pages for $60. I’ m not on FB so I haven’t seen it myself and I have no further details but since it’s a MadHatter release it might be on their FB page? Here’s the trailer they released in 2018:

For sale, as in the actual Mad Hatter LPs, or just a copy of files or burned media?

The 2 CDR set is actually on eBay now for $60. The seller won’t ship to Europe so if anyone from the US is interested:
