steecoe (1986) | I’m taking the video camera for sure, I’m torn about audio. Part of me wants to not even bother, but I think I might do audio at one show at least. steecoeQuote |

ron (11802) | Go Van Halen this weekend As Van Halen heads into Tinley Park, we’ve put together a list of things to do based on songs from the David Lee Roth era. By Vickie Jurkowski Daily Southtown Go Van Halen this weekend: You can be a bum in the sun with a drink in your hand and your toes in the sand. You know how certain songs can make you fall in love or drive fast or fall out of love or play air guitar or scream, cry or dance? Van Halen’s lyrics are suggestive enough. But with the rock icons’ tour coming to Tinley Park’s First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre July 24 and the albums “Women and Children First,” “Fair Warning,” “Diver Down” and “Van Halen II” remastered and released on CD and vinyl July 10, we thought it’d be fun to offer a list of things to do based on David Lee Roth-era song titles. “Ice Cream Man” — Like you need a song or an excuse like National Ice Cream Day July 19 to indulge, right? You can wait for a neighborhood truck to pass you by and hope all his flavors are guaranteed to satisfy. Or you can better your flavor at landmarks like the Original Rainbow Cone at 9233 S. Western Ave. in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood (773-238-7075 or rainbowcone.com) and the original Plush Horse at12301 South 86th Ave. in Palos Park (708-448-0550 or theplushhorse.com). “Everybody Wants Some!!” — Remember John Cusack in “Better Off Dead” as Beth-obsessed Lane Meyer working at Pig Burgers and daydreaming he’s akin to Frankenstein creating Claymation burgers that sing and dance to this tune? If you haven’t seen this 1985 classic, you’re more unforgivable than spandex pants ever were. If you have seen it, you know you want to again so rent it, stream it, do it. “Take Your Whiskey Home” — Make a toast to another cut from 1980′s “Women and Children First” with a trip to Frankfort Spirits, makers of Emil Stimple Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Barrel Strength Bourbon. The distillery is located in the loft of CD & ME, 23320 S. LaGrange Road in Frankfort, and open Sundays for tastings ($10). Liquor sales are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Call 815-200-1192 or visit frankfortspirits.com. “Light Up the Sky” — Fire up the “Van Halen II” album and watch fireworks at local festivals such as WeishFest on Saturday in Crestwood (708-489-2255 or weishfest.com), Ridge Fest July 26 in Chicago Ridge (708-425-7700 or chicagoridge.org) and Lynwood Fest Aug. 22 in Lynwood (708-758-6101 or lynwoodil.us). Or light up the sky with colorful language as you take a private flying lesson at Lewis University Airport near Route 53 in Romeoville (630-357-3040 or 1flightinstructor.com). “Panama” — Supposedly written about a piston-poppin’ car named Panama Express, the double-entendre single from the “1984″ album can steer you toward a local cruise night for rides currently burnin’ down the avenue. “Jump” — Ah, you might as well jump from an airplane someday. Contact Skydive Chicago in Ottawa at 815-433-0000 or skydivechicago.com. For a tamer experience, Sky Zone Trampoline Park, with open jump and dodgeball courts and a foam pit for adults and kids, is coming to Orland Park this fall (skyzone.com). “Dance the Night Away” — Come on g-girl, dance, dance, dance and pay tribute to Van Halen’s first Top 20 hit with a night class at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio, 19840 LaGrange Road in Mokena (708-478-5722 or fredastaireillinois.com). “Beautiful Girls” — We can’t promise any sweet talkin’ honey, but you can be a bum in the sun with a drink in your hand and your toes in the sand on the South Side at 63rd and 57th street beaches and Calumet, Oakwood, Rainbow and South Shore beaches (cpdbeaches.com and chicagoparkdistrict.com). “Dirty Movies” — Well, you can come up with your own material for this one from “Fair Warning.” “Hot for Teacher” — Relax, we are not about to pull a sexist Roth-like move and announce locales of good-looking teachers, but we can suggest where to take hot classes. Heat things up with a stained glass class at Vogt Visual Arts Center, 17420 S. 67th Ct. in Tinley Park (708-614-6503 or tinleyparkdistrict.org), solder away in a non-credit jewelry and metalsmithing class through Joliet Junior College (815-729-9020 or jjc.edu) or make an 8-ounce soy candle at VIP Paints, 1907 S. Halsted St. in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood (773-980-9766 or vippaints.com). Or heat up your bod with classes like 14-day Fat Furnace or Dance Heat at Heatwave Bootcamp, 9712 W. 191st St. in Mokena (815-401-0915). “Runnin’ with the Devil” — Take a stab at devilish diseases and other ills of society by grabbing your running shoes and participating in a race for charity. Christian Life Center in Tinley Park, for example, holds its inaugural Friends for Families Run/Walk/Jog 5k for Together We Cope, benefitting families in crisis, on Aug. 15 (708-257-7496). “Chinatown” — Of course a visit to Chicago’s Chinatown is in order in honor of this track from the 2012 album “A Different Kind of Truth” by the current lineup. Events include a Chicago Philharmonic concert Aug. 1 and Salsa Mambo Bachata Sept. 3 at Ping Tom Memorial Park, 300 W. 19th St. (312-326-5320 or chicagochinatown.org.) ronQuote |

steecoe (1986) | I recorded the whole show, but were were so many tall drunks in front of me that I had a hard time keeping a clear shot. I doubt I’ll release it as is but if anyone is going to do a multicam I’ll offer it up for use in a project like that… steecoeQuote |
